This is a new experiment for me. I’ve been delving into some production techniques as I’m going to University later this year as a (very) mature student to study Music Technology so wanted to put in a bit of work so I’m up to scratch. I got to watch the BBC Maestro course by Mark Ronson on Music Production and although I can’t say that all of his stuff hits my spot I like his approach which is basically “Cut out the bullshit and use your ears” of course you need to have an appreciation of the techniques that he is talking about and of course it does help to have top quality equipment and artists to work with but that’s not the point, You can do it if you want to ! This is a track employing some of the techniques that I learned but also me keeping it real

V1
Wanna tell me,
Wanna tell me what you're thinking ?
You're so quiet
I can tell your heart is sinking

So many times
I crossed all the lines for you
Now we can't speak
No need to be weak just be true

Ch
Could there ever
Maybe never
Could there ever be another day with you ?
Could there ever
Maybe never
Some fine day when you've thrown away the blue

I'm holding on so long and
I know that I must be strong but
Could there ever, ever be another day with you ?

V2
Destinations, we don't know which way we're going
And temptations,
Even if the wind is blowing

Now that I've found some peace in my mind
It takes time
Incredible days in so many new ways
We can find

Ch
Could there ever
Maybe never
Could there ever be another day with you ?
Could there ever
Maybe never
Some fine day when you've thrown away the blue

I'm holding on so long and
I know that I must be strong but
Could there ever, ever be another day with you ?

Break

Final Chorus !

That is very cool!

I also went to school for music technology this past fall semester (as a VERY mature student). The very beginning, so I haven't gotten very far yet. Next fall semester they're offering the next level, so I'm planning to take that in.

Meanwhile, I enjoyed this one.  :D

Best of luck at University!
I can't comment on production because I don't have the ear for that yet, but I can say that the bass is immaculate!
Very nice one, uterly vibes.

I definetely like the modern (or is it retro? :D ) approach of this song, something like a mixture of the Arctic Monkeys' latest album and the Style Council with some interessting synthesizer soundscapes.

The vocal is both subtle and powerful - quite a voice.  What I see in the desperation is a certain precision - naming of the parts.

Cool beans , that's all major producers do study production and I'm sure a ton of songs for ideas
that's why they're paid millions a year
Sounds good man

Lol. Was my 1st reaction.
It will be interesting you going to the university for a course on music production
I'd like to hear a candid report on how you do there.
Did you fail to mention, you'll be the tutor?
Ah. Who knows, young uns, these days, they shouldn't be underestimated.
I hope you get access to some top gear!
It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.

I can promise you a future of slow decline.

To the song.

I don't know any artist more industrious
or richer in ideas than you.

There are some very nice touches to this track
With the beat at the beginning.
It sounds like you're trying to go for an old hip hop sound
It then goes back into rnb

I do wish you'd spend more time on a track
(Sorry, I just woke up with back pains)
I generally have the impression that you could have
About 7 songs finished in 30 minutes, while drinking a double expresso
I'd say do less, more completely. I dunno meds might help? (Just kidding 😂)
You're a heavyweight of talent John!

Good morning!

I don't know if I could handle a music technology course these days - I'm too bloody argumentative!! But I admire you for going there. I could tell you a funny tale about a music course I did in my late 40's but I digress. This is another great song John. Keep em comin' :)

@CaliaMoko - Thanks so much Vicki. Yeah, you're never too old to learn some new tricks  :)

@Theresa - Thank you, I'm so glad that you enjoyed the listen

@JonasK "A mixture of the Arctic Monkeys' latest album and the Style Council" - That's an interesting observation for sure - Thanks so much for the listen

@RC James @Elvis Nash Thanks so much for the listen fellas  :)

@rightly Of course you are right ! I should take more time but I always seem to be full of ideas and can't wait to move on to the next one. I think that going to Uni will be a fascinating experience in terms of seeing what angles other folks are coming from. Thanks so much for your support

@ChrisPrice Thanks Chris, I'd like to hear that story !!

Cheers all - John

Hey, @pompeyjazz

From the first bar I could hear the Ronson influence. You've clearly taken influence from what you have learnt.

Whilst I have no criticisms (because it all sounds amazing and I like the song), I wanted to hear some dirty brass sounds in the chorus section :)

Hi @pompeyjazz

First off - have fun grabbing some more tools for your musical armoury at university.

This is a fun song that grabbed me more and more as it went on, burying deeper: which is often what the best songs do. The chorus is really catchy and your vocals are as soulful and effective as I've heard them. A great application of some of your newly acquired knowledge. I've been keeping tabs of your SC page and it's always enjoyable hearing your output.  :)

Well done,

CCB

@pompeyjazz  . . . super catchy pop tune ! Really like the groove, chord progression and vocal melody. So, you mention getting more schooling in music technology . . . it's already quite amazing the volume of quality songs you come up with, so look out world, what a force you will be . . .  ;D
