Here's my latest offering. It features an AI generated female backing singer courtesy 'Emvoice'. I wouldn't want to use it on any long vocal sections but I like it here. It's quirky.

Last Bus Home

Words & Music by Chris Price ©2023

Look in every window, but there’s an empty space inside
I read every newspaper n take it my stride

Think I lost my senses, such a waste of time
Always mending fences, but honey now is the time
To take the last bus home
Take me home
Take the last bus home
Take me home

All I see is the same old scrap about this and that and who gets fat
Who gets the icing on the cake, and who gets hit with all the crap

Think I lost my senses, such a waste of time
Always mending fences, but honey now is the time
To take the last bus home
Take me home
Take the last bus home
Take me home

Goin’ round the circle line, one stitch in time we gotta get outta town
Step back, get out in the sticks, the only place we can turn it around
We’re riding on a cowboy train, gonna take us there and back again
On the end of a smokin’ gun, brand fire new, yeah it’s just begun

Look in every window, but there’s an empty space inside
I read every newspaper n take it my stride

Think I lost my senses, such a waste of time
Always mending fences, but honey now is the time
To take the last bus home
Take me home
Take the last bus home
Take me home

Excellent.  Modern rock earworm.  Great production.  I actually love the AI backing vocals, they have a comic lilt to them like some of the female backing that Frank Zappa used to use at times.

Cheers - John.

Hi Chris, honestly for me, there's a little too much goig on.  It's a great track, love the tune and the guitar riffs are great but it feels busy and could use some light and shade.  Sorry.

I appreciate your honesty. Yeah, there is a fair bit happening I guess. I'm going to live with it for now as feedback here and elsewhere has generally been good. It's going on an album soon so I may take another look at it then. I'll certainly bear in mind your comment. :)

Great to hear another from you @ChrisPrice You've kicked off the New Year with a real belter. I think this one has a more AOR mid 80's feel to it but you're sticking to you're roots. That AI vocal stuff is mad isn't it. I recently experimented with some software where you submitted an isolated vocal and were able to to choose a plethora of AI charters to sing it for you. The results weren't perfect but pretty amazing really. Top stuff Chris :)

Some nice mainstream rock, I like it :)

What I don't like are the drums and the organ. For my taste, the drums don't vary enough and I think that the main beat is to slow, it seems to slow down the whole song. The organ stays on the low registers for the almost all of the song and especially in the chorus and the riff parts it could deal with being played an octave higher with a fast lesley (or something like that :D ) to emphasize those parts.

Nevertheless, good work!

@Whiskey Club  @PeteS  @pompeyjazz  @shadowfax @JonasK

Thanks for listening guys and for constructive criticism. One or two interesting comments. @PeteS may have a point about the song being rather busy. I don't agree with @JonasK  about the drums and especially the keys. We'll have to agree to differ there. I do take everything on board though..it's what the forum is for.  :)

vocals remind me of a favourite, Axel rose, just warmer, less forboding.
ah the same genre

It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.

Hi @ChrisPrice

There's nothing not to like about this. It's just balls out guitar rock at its best. The AI BV's actually work which surprised me too!!

You get some really great sounds on those guitars my friend.

Hi @ChrisPrice

As usual this is supremely catchy and hooky. I wouldn't have guessed the vocal was AI but then I'm not the most astute with specifics - I usually just take in the 'whole' until I know a song very well.
A lovely solo that takes the vocal melody and runs with it very well. I've no problem with the keys myself - the drum maybe sounds a little programmed/midi but them most of us rely on such things and I didn't find it particularly distracting. The drums on my current WIP aren't exactly lifelike  ;D .

All the best,

CCB

Hi Chris - great riffage! The four to the floor section before the solo was a little long and samey for me but otherwise well up to your normal standards and the AI lady is a great addition to your portfolio!

I used Emvoice for all vocals on "Nobody Told Me" (submitted here a while back) - it's not perfect, but easily the best of the synthetic vocals out there. For backing vox, it's barely noticeable, unless (like I do) you recognise the voice.

Anyway, your song: nothing too original, but that's ok - it works great, it's catchy and I like the arrangement and choice of sounds, so I'm not sharing those criticisms already made. Harmonies are all good, and my foot was tapping along.
