I wrote these lyrics quite a while ago.  I'd like to put them to some music.

Just saw a girl I used to know
We were lovers a long time ago
She was walking with a younger guy
He looked familiar and I wondered why
Something about him the  look in his eyes
It took a while before I realised.

For three years we were floating on air
Had no money but we didn't care
I didn't know it then but she had a plan
To raise a kid alone without a man
A love child she kept hidden away
But I saw him on the street today

Looking at a younger version of me
Maybe twenty two or twenty three
If she'd told me that  I had a boy
He would have been my pride and joy
Never got a chance to see him grow
The missing father that he'd never know.

She looked at me then she turned away
Guess she couldn't think of what to say
Shame and guilt about what she'd done
She could have told me that I had a son
Feeling angry, feeling sad felt like saying
Hey kid I'm your dad.
But no words came from my mouth today
And I stood there as they walked away.

They say that ignorance is bliss
and what you don't have you can't miss.
I'll tell myself it wasn't her
and he was never really there,
A son I never really had,
guess I'll never be a dad..

I made a recording of this track but I've decided it isn't good enough.

From reading the lyrics I thought the "Something about him the  look in his eyes" would jar the melody but after hearing it this part fits nicely.
Amazing when lyrics and a song come nicely together like that.

Really like it well done 😀
