Hope I am not being a heretic by suggesting it, but I think we should consider shortening the period between posting songs. (My preference would be moving from 14 to 7 days).

My reasons are :

1. I find that songs receive almost all the useful feedback in the first week.
2. This would increase the activity on the forum, particularly for those who participate most
3. I tend to write a number of songs in parallel and it can be frustrating waiting for the next 2 week slot. As a result, I either don't post at all or post them elsewhere

Thoughts?

Well said @kevysc.  i couldn't agree more. It has been good rule in the past but I think a shorter time frame would help the forum.  I d  find myself sneaking new numbers in early sometimes to breath a little life into the forum.  Hope nobody minds.

@kevysc - Maybe the rule stays and admin turns a blind eye to the odd one or 2 early posts from established contributors, it might stop batch updates from people not intending to contribute, which has been the case from time to time.

@cowparsleyman I hear what you're saying and there are some who already do that. However, I'd prefer to have a clear rule that to stick to .... plus I really think a week is enough to get feedback.

BTW, who are the admins nowadays? Would love to engage them in this conversation

Yup - was always going to do it this afternoon

I also added clarification that the restriction only to applies to posting within the same section

Here is the new guideline:

You may only post one song every 7 days. No exceptions
**Please Note - this restriction is only "per section" - so you could post a song in the "FEEDBACK ON FINISHED SONGS" section, a lyric in the "LYRICS" section AND an unfinished song in the "FEEDBACK ON WORKS IN PROGRESS" on the same day

I wish I could come up with songs that regularly .  Even when I do, I can't record them to a significant quality to share with anyone!

I also thought of it as a loose rule and no one minded if a regular gumped the gun. I suppose the danger here is a new person joins with a back catalogue like Ryan Adam’s and we get 14/15 years of weekly posting….

Anyway looks like I am in the minority…nothing new in that

It's a balancing act Andy. On the positive side there may be more songs and the feedback section is faster flowing,but I understand most of us don't have the time to properly listen to every track all the time. We'd never get anything done.

My point is,we shouldn't feel guilty about not having the time,this should be a pleasure and an interest,so just do what you can when time and life allows. Everyone susses out when someone posts songs and never reviews,but there's a massive difference between that and what the genuine majority can fit in.

I don't think anyone wants a nose to the grindstone attitude,that's when an interest becomes a chore.

I will add some tactful wording about “spamming” with songs and if this does happen, please report the post to a mod (using the report button) and we will take the appropriate “guiding” action
