This song is a dedication to my best mate who sadly lost his father. He worked for the royal as a post person his whole life and was a top bloke. It's always so hard to know what to say to someone when they lose someone but it's easier for me to make a song instead. Apologies for the singing I will probably re-do it at some point when I get over this man flu lol.

Lyrics

What do you say to someone who’s just lost a loved one
Cause there’s no amount of words that can bring them back
Everything you think of in your head just sounds dumb
Man I can’t believe he had a heart attack
He’d just finished work doing his daily post run
Then was found on his kitchen floor laying flat
I can tell this has really got his head spun
I feel so helpless cause I can’t do jack, man I wish I could undo facts
but this a fact I can’t undo, bro
just know, I’m here for you though
I’m here for you

I know that it’s hard to move on from this
I know that life won’t be the same
I will always be right here for you
To try and shelter you from the pain

He wasn’t just a father to you he was a best friend
Always staying out late with us two
Remember that Tuesday night in the west end
And that trip to prague on your stag do
If we did 9 jager bombs then he must have had ten
There’s nothing he wouldn’t do for you
I know there’s nothing you wouldn’t do for him
But you can’t now and that makes me sad
I hope he knows that I’ve got your back, that’s a fact
I can’t undo bro, just know I’m here for you though
I’m here for you

I know that it’s hard to move on from this
I know that life won’t be the same
I will always be right here for you
To try and shelter you from the pain

I don’t know what’s worse, a shock death
Or knowing someone’s dying, either way
The end result is lots of people crying
I am trying to find a silver lining but I can’t
At some point we’re gunna get a broken heart
We’re all gunna wake up one day and not know where to start
Cause we just feel empty, worlds been torn apart
Grief can release so many emotions
The pain will cause enough tears to fill a million oceans
Then there’s anger, depression, rage, hate
But there is no magic potion, it just takes time
The wound will never heel but you’re start to feel fine
Until then just so you know
I’m here from you bro

I know that it’s hard to move on from this
I know that life won’t be the same
I will always be right here for you
To try and shelter you from the pain

Hola @StevieJ

It's the first song I listen to today and I liked it. The lyrics are magnificent and I like the way you deliver the words, each one has its importance, each line its weight, images. The backing suits the story very well. It's a beautiful tribute to your friend's father.
When you sing here, it gives a special color and feeling to the track.

Good morning @StevieJ,

Kudos to you for paying tribute to this gentleman and his life achievements that I'm sure have been acknowledged by this family down the years.  Your best mate is a rich man to have such a great mate.  Lovely piano and ssincere sentiment throughout.

Yeah, this is quality.  The sentiment of course is very genuine and the down to earth details keep it grounded and authentic.  Musically I like the way you cut up the piano, and it is not quite smooth... it judders just a little bit where the timing is slightly out, but I actually think that works better for this song, because it is a little unsettling and hints at things being 'broken', which fits the sad lyrics.  Top work.
It's all too beautiful.

Yo Stevie.

You captured perfectly the lame helplessness when trying to comfort a friend who has suffered the ultimate loss.

The human condition aptly encapsulated. The repeating musical backdrop adds to the potency.

Nice rhyming as always! Not too obvious or unnatural. Very nice.

I feel your anguish in this moving track. Great lyrics. Well done.
If I had a dollar for every silly mistake I've made I'd have another know.
