This one came out last week but, since I posted another song the week before, had to wait to post this one.

This is the other group I write for (same singer though). It started off called the Na Na Song (cos that's how he sang it in the demo!). And it was a bloody pain-in-my-ass to write! Worth it in the end, though, I feel.

Originally I wrote a song called Domino but then Jacin came back saying he was after something more "cinematic". After an hour or so of moping, I got down to cases and came up with what I thought was just what they wanted. The new title was called "Quickening" and was the tear-jerking tail of sacrifice based on a character of the same name in a book called The Druid of Shannara.

They loved those lyrics but...

...they felt they wanted something less about "love" as the EP I'd done for them were all based on different aspects of love and they wanted something different for their next single (despite my last song for them actually being about an outlaw's last stand!).

So back to the drawing board. Another short time of moping (I really liked those Quickening lyrics!) and then I started working on what was to become the final storyline.

Even this went through changes (Jacin was constantly demanding changes - mainly due to some lost-in-translation moments understanding his vocal demands).  The title changed a few more times as well (Gunslinger became X Marks the Spot, which became Eyes of a Dead Man and, finally, to the current title).

Phew! And here we are. This little beauty and one I personally love. The cartoon charcacter (I call her Devil Girl which I think is what Jacin refers to her as well) is cute. As I said to Jacin she looks like (a) she doesn't give a damn and (b) she's just about to blow your brains out! lol. I think there's supposed to be a video (cartoon) for this one eventually but don't quote me on that.

Staring down the barrel of a gun
Night is closing in - nowhere to run
I thought that we were tight as close as brothers
One act of betrayal sets the sun

Whoah! Don't understand it
Whoah! This how you planned it?

Nerves wound in a deadly game of timing
Faster than a snake bite, bullets flying

Caught in the moment that I let you go
Eyes of a dead friend stare into my own
Caught in the moment of a broken oath
Eyes of a dead friend keep their secrets close

We came here to dig up buried gold
Now I dig a grave to rest your soul
I try to find forgiveness but the pain is much too raw
I toss you a coin then turn to go

Whoah! What were you thinking?
Whoah! Why did you risk it?

As I ride away the heavens open
Lightning fills the sky just like an omen

Caught in the moment that I let you go
Eyes of a dead friend stare into my own
Caught in the moment of a broken oath
Eyes of a dead friend keep their secrets close

Very Bond-esque beginning and then super funky as the main track comes in.  You’ve found one or two cool bands to help you express your creativity.  All power to you you @Sterix

Hey Sterix, nice funky track.  I thought the lyrics were an interesting combo with the funky feel... unusual to have a funky song about a gun fight.  I like the organ in the production a lot.  It feels like a cool jam to me rather than a conventionally structured song - e.g. I'm not sure if there is a clear distinct chorus etc, but not that that matters... I enjoyed the funky ride and the story telling.  Good stuff.
It's all too beautiful.

Yo Sterix.

This is one tight band. Tight as a duck's doo-dah with passionate vocal work.

Cool wordsmithing. The song is a powerful package. Well done to all concerned.
