it's very cool these days to be analogue and Lofi, especially for EDM and Hip Hop.

So what is it and how can the sound be created?

The Lofi Sound
It's that radio, small speaker, hissy, telephone sound, which is simply a band pass filter with some noise on, which menas that not all the frequencies are there, the bass and the high are usually chopped off, and chunk (band) is allowed to pass through to your ears, using a parametreic EQ such as FabFilter Pro EQ it's easy to create a band pass filter, simply move it about the frequency spectrum until it sounds what you are looking for.

For the noise you can add a touch of tape saturation or distortion at a low ish %age.

I've tried a few plugins that claim to give this sound and here are a few I can really recommend, I generally use them as insert fx, not sends
Audio Thing Reels and Speaker
Arturia Mello Fi
Waves Retro Fi - although this is a bit OTT and needs taming
Waves Vinyl is pretty good but eats CPU, so i avoid it.

The biggest tip is not to over use it, like all fx, just use em to turn a head, if they are on all the time, they tend to lose their effect, as it were. In some genres they do need to be on all the time, but personally it gets on my pip if it is.

Hope this helps
