My musical alter ego and poor Karla continues the escape from small-town boredom...
@monnodb held my hand as the lyrics developed, I'd be at loss without her (or you would have to put up with Swedish lyrics :-) )

The van broke down
just 5 miles from O'Hare
Not sure what we were doing
Had no tickets anyway
As the sun set in the West
We walked East
Planes roaring overhead

We ran as fast as we could run
Escape our only goal
From small town suffocation
And our designated roles
BBQs on Saturdays
Cold Millers with the guys
The vanishing horizon
Matched the dulling in our eyes

Not quite a decision
That either of us made
But a moment of clarity
And what it meant to stay
It never matters
Which road we take
As long as right beside me
I have Karla with a K

We ran as fast as we could run
Escape our only goal
From small town suffocation
And our designated roles
BBQs on Saturdays
Cold Millers with the guys
The vanishing horizon
Matched the dulling in our eyes

The excitement and the newness
As we move from town to town
As we worked to settle down
Turned piece by little piece
into what we'd sworn not to become
we lived the lives we ran from

We ran as fast as we could run
Escape our only goal
From small town suffocation
And our designated roles
BBQs on Saturdays
Cold Millers with the guys
The vanishing horizon
Matched the dulling in our eyes

Those acoustic sprinklings stole the show for me…though I really enjoyed the lyrics too.

I always find it fascinating to hear these kind of stories. I never really find anything that relates to my own experiences…but why on earth would I want to read something that echoes the shit time I had trying to find my way in the world 😀 I invariably end up kicking myself for having done fuck-all with my life…so thanks for that!

Production is super. Took me out of myself for a couple of minutes…most enjoyable 👍🏻

Hey Johan.  This is one deeply affecting song,a real spine tingler.

Great,descriptive lyrics and an air of reflective melancholy mixed with the lust for escape and wrapped in a catchy,memorable package.

A genuine thanks for sharing.

Very lovely song Johan :) I'm always amazed at how well you sing in English. Love the acoustic guitar and the lyrics are very compelling :)
The melody gives the song a bit of a meloncholy vibe which suite the lyrics. Thanks for sharing  :)

@Jambrains

Hi, unusually for me, the lyric really caught my attention, simple story told very well, excellent. As others said the acoustic guitars and drums sounded great.

Top stuff!

Cheers

Delicious acoustic opening. The lyrics are top - definitely stuff most of us can identify with! Lines like ‘Millers with the guys’ are a neat, fresh way to express the slow suffocation of settling down and conforming - very clever, it kind of takes a line Bryan Adams might write and flips it on its head. The chorus melody is nice and hooky too. One of your best, sir... really really good.
It's all too beautiful.

@Bostonfan2. thanks! Now, living so close and all, could you please pick up my van?

@moraamarolaloba: Gracias!

@PaulAds: thanks pal, appreciated!

@Skub: Grma, as always you are too kind

@pompeyjazz: thanks for the kind words!

@crystalsuzy: thanks, melancholy was probably exactly what I was after

@Jamie: Thanks a mill  :)

@PaulyX: Bryan Adams flipped on his head, love that, thanks!
