@rightly

Hi Mr. R, enjoyed the lyric. nice melody too. You still had your trademark instrumentation/feel. Nice work!

Cheers

Jamie

Thanks Jamie
I've a long way to go. It's a good thing that I like traveling.
I literally climbed a hill today, I realised I've very few stress factors at the moment.
The benefits of walking, getting out of the city often surprise me.

Cheers buddy!

It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.

You always take us on a new musical journey @Rightly - More melodic than some of your other creations. I find it fascinating having followed your progress from the time you joined this forum. Excellent and unique

Hi pompey
Yes I've been through some changes
When I first joined i was trying to get it right with acoustic guitar voice and songs that at least resonated with myself
With zero intention of wanting to appear original
I just didn't like to impersonate xfactor candidates or the established artists for whom I do have respect. I could make a lost of good artists but not now
Then a 2 year sound design course opened up new, irresistible avenues. I've only basic music theory and the rest is playfulness or creativity.

There's a price for "being original" I'm occasionally reminded if it, one way or another.
Best work is still ahead of me. I hope I live long enough to realise it

All the best , Rightly

@rightly - Whato - this is the first song I've reviewed without hearing it...an unusual approach indeed. I read the lyrics a few times becasue in the past I found them to be occluded by the music, so I just wanted to digest them and make sense of them beforehand. Truly superb, and as so often happens the narrative is so well known sometimes the story is no so apparent, so I'm taking time to unravel the story (if I can)

Now onto the first listen...I was quite surprised actually, it's more graspable for me this time, sometimes it's quite tricky for my ears to detach from what I know and hook into your original world, this one is easier.

For me I'd start with just the piano and your voice.. until then end of the Verse. Then introduce each instrument maybe by each verse, it sounds a bit samey with all of the instruments all there right from the off, I liked the ooo oo's at the end of the verses, I think more could be done with that idea.

Maybe look at some dangering it up on the vocal processing, and on the drums, not in vloume, but maybe adding catch lo-fi fx and verb/delay, but sparingly (not overboard) just for contrast really, anyway I really dig this, to me Paul, your work gets better and better.

Thanks some of your tips are worth their weight in gold (figuratively speaking)

that 1st paragraph of yours is very astute.

The narration of the song is difficult enough to follow without
Dangering it up.
Still I could have done more with this
I wish i had a 2nd brain to work with my music
Listening to queen i can hear there's more than 1 committed artist at work.

I'm still working on my workflow
in the hope that I have a lot more energy to continue to work after the initial idea is brought into existence.

Yo Rightly.

As ever,I get lost in the cadence of your lyrics and the rest seems to matter less. I agree with CPM on the dynamics of the piece. Dropping stuff out here and there,or giving the music a slow build gives the song punch when it all comes back in.

I was very disappointed in the last line of the song, but hey gentlemen never tell.   ;)

I love the piano sounds and this song has them too.
You got a beautiful musical accompaniment for the vocals.
I feel some sad mood in the melody, but I really hope that everything will be fine.
