Another new creation - A bit of electro pop this time - As always, when you start on a song you never know quite how it's going to turn out in the end and sometimes songs can even morph into different styles during the writing / production process. Anyway, this one is quite an upbeat dance / pop thingy and I hope that you enjoy it, even if it's not your genre :)

Chinese lights, lanterns twinkling in the dead of night
When your ancient history
 is a delight
Chinese lights, 30 thousand feet below
Beautiful horizon
The Sunset and the afterglow

The great wall
winding like a river
The sight of which
 that makes us shiver
The forbidden City
Spreading  its mystery
Deep in the belt of our earth
Exotic discovery of new birth

Chinese lights, lanterns twinkling in the dead of night
When your spiritual qwest
 is delivered
Chinese lights, searching ,looking high and low
For the appeasement of our souls
The sunrise and the morning Dew

High in the Mountains of Tibet
Far from the urgency of our lives
A gentle jasmine on the breeze
The karma of our being
The mystery of chinese lights
We cannot capture the essence

Break

Chinese lights, lanterns twinkling in the dead of night
When your ancient history
 is a delight
Chinese lights, 30 thousand feet below
Beautiful secrets
The Sunset and the afterglow

@pompeyjazz - ni hao ma…You’re loving this 80’s groove aren’t you? …”pompeyjazz do do do/ Pop Musik/talkabout do do do PopMusik et al

Anyway this is superb Johnno, nailed the genre (as always) digging that SEM bass synthy thing,

Must have taken ages to learn that wooden bamboo flute, really up my street.

Loved the wide panned intro worked perfectly for me, maybe a few more vox lines during the chorus might have added contrast, enhancing the ooohs.

Oh yes and a special curry please.

Hola @pompeyjazz

Wow!  I love the intro, an aperitif that prepares the ear for the surprise that comes later, a very lively song, I like the arrangement and the rhythm so from then, the Chinese Wall and the Chinese lights, something always still mysterious from our eyes .
I think this style suits your voice very well, you perform great.
Good job!!!

Stay well.  再见

The only band I played with that came close to commercial success was in the '80's. We were trying to do what was right for that time which was hard for an old rocker like me!! By contrast, you have it totally nailed here. Great synth backing and a really strong vocal. Very memorable too. Yup, I like this. :)

it's not my genre
I know what you mean with not knowing how it'll turn out.

well I like the BVs, with rest I'm struggling.

you've done lots better and quite often
i hope my hard critique doesn't bother you.

I'll try to get that promised recording to you soon.
It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.

I can promise you a future of slow decline.

And there you have it.

Got me head a-boppin with this one John :D
Vocals are a stand-out for me.
I can picture this played in a 90's disco with the laser spinnin and the patrons groovin :D

Hi PJ,

Totally nailed that early/mid 80s synth pop sound - sort of Alphaville (Big In Japan) meets Erasure.
The synth tones are bang on the money. What are you using?
You've dialed back the edge in your voice on this one and it works very well.

Totally authentic.

Brings me right back to the school disco (well maybe not, we had school céilís 😁) but to discos when I was at school. Nailed the genre perfectly.

I can imagine that the lyric didn’t scream 80s synth-pop but it works and the lovely oriental motifs give it a spark of something different …

Great vox!!

Hey John, thought it was a really interesting title and image to use in the lyrics.  I like a bit of synth pop (used to REALLY like synth pop when I was a teenager... all my pocket money used to go on Depeche Mode and Heaven 17 12-inches) and this had all the bubbly fun of that genre, especially that cheeky bass line and airy flute noises.  I think your voice sounds great on it too... you've dialled back the rocky gravel a bit, which works very well for this mood.  The verse before the bridge made me pause for a moment... Tibet being China... well I guess it is now... that kind of made it a political lyric for a moment... I'm probably reading too much into it and should just enjoy it!  Top work Star XD.
It's all too beautiful.
