Some of my music incorporates spoken word elements taken from 25+ year old cassette tapes of radio programmes. It might be single words or short phrases spoken by a radio host, news reporter or phone in show caller. I would think they are fairly unidentifiable. Is there any copyright issue with this? How about recording a word or phrase from a Youtube video? Thanks.

I believe (in the USA, anyway) those would all technically be "samples" under copyright. You may not get in trouble for using them informally, but if you are looking at using them commercially, I expect each sample would need to be cleared.

Disclaimer: I am not an attorney and this is my opinion based on my personal understanding of copyright laws in the USA.
