Okay, so there’s this melody stuck in my head for a new song. I sort of fell in love with it and want to make it into a new song. But, there’s this awkward feeling it might already exist out there. Can’t seem to recall any lyrics or an artist though.

How does one find out if a melody already exists? What if I subconsciously picked it up somewhere? Or worse: that it turns out to be a well known song? That would be quite embarrassing when presenting it. Arghhh.

Did any of you ever experienced this? How did you find out if "your" melody was already "taken"?
Where to look? Is there a place where all the melodies live?

Wouldn't worry about it, there are a lot of artist making money out there who do not care if they've lifted some elses song..if you end up making a load of money out of a song and you get taken to court you'll just give the other writer a portion of the money just like Sheeran or a load of other artist that escape my memory at the moment.
