Lyrics:

people without

it's people without courage
no legs to stand their ground
 it's people without knowledge
why must they talk so loud?
them greasy ballerinas
put a name to your game
wake up in the morning
feeling vaguely ashamed

well, I've got that
I've got courage

 it's people without backbone
who never keep their word
 it's people without the spark
n' still refuse to burn
a dead end street who
will you be 'fore y' get there?
won't you take a minute
smell the roses in your hair?

You can smell this too
courage n' knowledge, n' backbone
and the spark
people without passion

@rightly,

Too many good lyrics to mention set to your trademark musical background that engages and challenges.  “Greasy ballerinas” is a standout lyric that grabs the listener and won’t let go.  Love the trumpet.  Having said that, this is a polished musical performance all ‘round.  Attention to detail is evident in the stylus ending too!

gracias Mora!
there is anger and frustration in my songs
in real life I'm a regular sweetie
there are grievances in life which can't be tackled at all.
I perceive these and don't go gentle into that good night.
I do glam it up for entertainment.

God bless yer!

Hey there Rightly............this is VERY poignant for the today we live in.
But as you know, we, the people, are operating under two flags of truth.
My only nit is that this is vague, and takes no side. Courage??
But, as a writer, I understand "vague" makes it's own point.

hello Tony @IronKnee

very astute observation
I appreciate it.

That might be a genuine fault of the song
but then it's about expectations
I really didn't have a fixed point of contention to begin with.

I started with a vague idea to make - an alarm for my mobile, a bit later the idea of a danceable lament.
I began to like the song because in writing I got to consider some positive elements like, Passion, the spark, backbone, knowledge and courage.

I asked an associate to listen to a demo
She took issue with
"greasy ballerinas" and "you can smell this too!"
Considering her reasons, I decided she was short on humour and I'd keep those phrases.

Before I knew it the song was pretty much done.

My favorite part is the setting, the production. I haven't been too active here for a while and maybe don't remember correctly, but it seems to me this is changed up quite a bit from things you've done before. or maybe I'm just behind. ? Anyway, I like the whole thing and don't really have anything specific to mention. Your work always stands out; it definitely isn't any kind of "same old-same old". It's unique and I really like that.

This made me laugh:

"ah well I worked with this until i was sick of it"

That describes every home mix I do - well maybe "until I felt like hurling my computer out the window"

Anyway to the song... Love that drum intro - rockier than I expect from you but it suits you, sir!!! Love the beat throughout the song.. Love the theme and some great lines in there - what's a greasy ballerina?? I don't care, I love the concept...

Superb @rightly - possibly my fave so far...

Like it @rightly, Best I've heard of yours for a while.  Your vocal delivery reminds me of Alex Harvey but I might have said that to you before.   Great production.

Hi Rightly,

Love how this song brings you in.
Such a simple, but effective groove.
The vocal made me think of Bryan Ferry at times.
"Greasy ballerinas" for me too - great line.

A slightly weird but enjoyable tune.

haha
yes I work on productions until i'm sick of them.
I can always go back after a week or two but i must press on.

A greasy ballerina is something good to look at but just don't touch them, keeps them out of arms reach. I thought that was common knowledge.

An uptight associate scrutinized the demo, she made a couple of points she didn't like about the track. The points didn't really cut it and I decided they must stay in there if nothing else does.

@PeteS

yes, you've said that before! lol.

all the best, R.

@rightly Another fabulous song. I love the lyrics. I also really like the arrangement. You approach your music in a different way to me. I try and get the production as close as I can in a shed studio but I have a loose formula which I rarely stray too far from. You seem fearless - you'll try anything and I really admire that. I know what you mean about working on productions till you can take no more..done it many times! Full of admiration for your work and this is a great track. :)

hi @CaliaMoko
I'm usually changing it up, aren't I?
well, same old can be found elsewhere

This song is new
I don't always post my productions in chronological order,
it's bothersome revisiting an unfinished 100 hour production to find I've outgrown the song.

glad you like the song!

I do invest, I've got my formulas too
but I like it when I break out, accidentally or otherwise,
main thing is that it works.

Main problem is getting caught in a production
and other, fresher ideas occur.
I'm ever looking forward to having a clean slate.
