Hi I've got a slightly odd question that I'd like to throw open to all.

Can anyone think of a well known song which contains two sections with exactly the same lyrics but with a different melody for each section?

I can't think of one myself!

The reason I'm asking is that I'm thinking of doing it with one of my songs (in a pre-chorus section) but would feel comforted if it's been done before rather than this being a totally radical idea.

Thanks to anyone who can come up with something....

One springs to mind but it's not well known (and it doesn't quite use exactly the same lyrics - a couple of minor differences in lines 1 and 3 - see below - and the bridge misses the last line). The song is How's The Heart by Nightwish and they use them in both the chorus and the bridge.

It's about the best I can think of, sorry.

CHORUS
How's the heart
Underneath the silence?
How's the one
Drowning in the mire?
Let us sound a human paean
Come on in, the fire's warm
(Burn the rope and dance some more)

BRIDGE
How is that heart
Underneath the silence?
How is the one
Drowning in the mire?
Let us sound a human paean
Come on in, the fire's warm

Good effort!

Thank you, Sterix.  That's definitely the type of thing I'm looking for.

Wasn't expecting a chorus to be varied like that though.

If there's one there must be more, surely!!!

@walthamstowman - This is a great idea, I'd be inclined to go ahead with it anyway, does it matter if it's been done before? I'd be very interested to hear it.

Hi cowparsleyman - in the end I decided to rewrite the lyrics to the first half of the pre-chorus while retaining the lyrics for the second half and it seems to have worked.   :)
