A true story

A woman was murdered by a man.
He was caught, found guilty
and sentenced to life imprisonment.

This life sentence lasted only 14 years

Weakened by cancer, the virus came and
finished him off.
The family of the murdered woman were notified.

The song is written from the perspective of her brother,
in a confusing mix of sentiments,
he tries to restore his balance

a  part of his processing is caught in this song.

A fast enough write.
________

hope you enjoy the listen
feedback would be nice.

The lyrics:

A Violent Death

the salt will be well spent
I’ll shed a little tear
to act without intent
never a good idea
a knife was in my hand
and buried in his chest
he’d lived a lawless man
he died a violent death

dreams are two a penny
and not to give away
‘seems I have so many
and someone has to pay
she could have been a star
as she would shine as bright
he broke my mother’s heart
and took my sister’s light

we reach an early end
with memories I’m blessed
just let him die again
never should he find rest

they pleaded distraction
but we weren’t having that
how could I let this happen
how could it come to pass

he died a violent death
he died a violent death

Those string sounds are amazing (I mean the sounds at the very beginning that I think are fingers on strings... rather than string instruments) ... Oh and that dirty guitar over the piano... ooh... I love how the piano hammers in.. I find on my first listen that my ear is kind of favouring the instrumental over the song and just listening to the track. what an interesting listening experience ...

Second listen is all about the song..

Such a great concept - the salt being well spent - strikes me..
Those lyrics are great!

The story sounds intriguing but I have no idea really what's going on - but I like that!

This is one hell of a good song. I wouldn't dare touch on such a disturbing story but you do it so incredibly well. It's an alarming piece in some ways but I'm really into it. There's a hint of David Bowie about it...maybe David Byrne...but no, this is your you unique style and I'm very much on side. Well done mate :)

Solid topic for a song and some sad moments. I loved the music throughout. The vocals gave me sort of Johnny Cash Hurt vibes AKA poignant and full of feeling, but the song didn't quite progress as I'd have liked. I was expecting it to kick into 5th gear towards the end, but it didn't really go anywhere. Brimming with potential.

@rightly  a really thoughtful and thought provoking piece mr Rightly! I love the juxtaposition of a really bitter difficult sentiment over a rather gentle almost pleasant backing lots of interesting flourishes just to keep the listener slightly off balance too, nicely done again!👍
Sound formed in a vacuum may seem a waste of time...

Love what you are doing with your guitar.....very creative.
As always, your thought provoking lyrics are in the spot light.

"dreams are two a penny
and not to give away
‘seems I have so many
and someone has to pay
she could have been a star
as she would shine as bright
he broke my mother’s heart
and took my sister’s light"

Who did this to your mother and sister? Is there a someone...or a something?
Love it!

Hola @rightly

You describe a terrible situation ... from the point of view of the murdered woman's brother ... Life sentence = 14 years !!! Hard.
I like the story because of how unusual it is, although I think the arrangement gives me a strange feeling, surely the one you wanted to provoke ... Maybe if the voice had a lower volume level it would be more integrated with the base and that base would stand out more.

Feliz Verano!

This is really great.

Lyrics are superb and the chopping, visceral guitar is brilliant too.

Hey Rightly, I found the palette of instruments you used on this very cool. That choppy rhythmic guitar sounds like it is from a different universe to the more electronic components surrounding it, but it still gels really well.  Lyrics are good too - less cryptic than some of your stuff (but that might be because you've told us what it is about), but still nothing obvious or predictable about them - thought provoking. I did wonder if it could have a more distinct vocal melody... but then again the semi-narrated feel works for the subject matter too and it's possible that more of a 'tune' would be too much on top of the very dense and interesting backdrop you've produced.
It's all too beautiful.

I was going to revisit this production, cleanup etc
But in the meantime the roughness had grown on me

I should move on so I posted it as it is

Hi Rightly,

Interesting perspective for a song, and lyrics which deliver the sentiment well.

I like the itchy, restlessness the music gives. I think it really sets the tone for the inner thoughts of the brother.

Inventive and interesting.

@rightly  Wonderfully complex and nuanced in both the music and the lyrics, top notch and a worthy addition to the Rightly Canon :)

Really interesting, atmospheric track. The piano at times sounds playful but then moves to those dark-sounding chords that support the equally dark-sounding vocal. A daring attempt at creating something unique - not sure if 'enjoyed' is the correct term for the vibe you were going for - but it held my attention for sure and I wanted to re-listen several times
