Continuing the theme of songs that are inspired by my family members, this one is called "Would you do the same?"

Alan @montydog has recently posted his song "Someday"  that I really enjoyed producing.  At roughly the same time, I sent Alan "Would you do the same?"  and he kindly added a little magic.  We've used a very limited palette here and I think it helps to showcase this song beautifully.

This song was written for my Dad who passed away many years ago.  We had the most difficult relationship.  His influence on my life has shaped the man that I am today. He is the reason that I write music.  It has helped me to make sense of some very difficult thoughts and emotions. We fought and I am sure that we hurt each other beyond repair and yet I still think of him every single day of my life. I wanted to write a song filled with compliments about him and so I wrote about his "Chisseled features"  reporting that he was "master of the northern seas." My Dad was a fisherman.  I feared him and loved him just as I still do.  He often haunts my dreams.   A massive thank you to Alan for helping me to present this song.  His vocals are beautiful beyond words.

Would you do the same for me?

Such a handsome man; chiselled features and physique.
Long ago, it must have been before life turned so bleak.
Master of the northern seas.
That’s where I set your spirit free.

Such a rugged look; danger written on your face.
So many thoughts I can’t forget, won’t ever be erased.
Master of the northern seas.
That’s where I set your spirit free.

Would you do the same for me?

Wrap me in your arms, protect me from the savagery.
Chances spurned may be regained but such complexity.

Master of the northern seas.
That’s where I set your spirit free.
Would you do the same for me?

Would you do the same for me?

Would you do the same for me?

Just a few thoughts from me. I was so flattered that Paul asked me to sing this song. If I have achieved anything with  my vocal it is because I think we share similar aspects of our relationships with our fathers. I immediately understood where he was coming from and this helped me sing with some idea of what he wanted.
This is for all of you lucky enough to have an easy relationship with your parents.........

Well it’s saying something when this brings out one of the best vocals I have heard from Alan ❤️

Wonderful arrangement Paul...the arrangement is just perfect...I can see a black and white film , fishing boat out on the sea as I listen....

Very haunting....the “would you do the same for me” is so poignant...

Top class in every respect 😍

Wow.

Amazing songwriting, lovely production and a superb vocal from Alan. I would do the same...if only I could!

A tough song to write, I'm sure...but what a brilliant end product. The cello (?) stabs in particular give it a real haunting quality.

Masterful.

A very poetic song, beautifully sung. The haunting nature of the piece feels like ghosts are being faced by the creators, yet somehow a happy ending is not anticipated as suggested by that discordant cello.

What a superb artistic piece of music this is. Very moving and honest.

On a technical note, where did those very realistic sounding vst strings come from?

Marvellous stuff guys! 👍

Beautiful song! The arrangement and playing is fantastic. Parts clear as bells...

Hard subject and an interesting take on it.... I find it fascinating Alan’s comments about identifying with the lyric - it’s such an emotional delivery. And bizarrely although @montydog sounds very ‘him’, there are places where his delivery reminds me of @Wicked Deeds.

Intriguing collaboration. I really think you guys should do more together - I think you’re magic together!!!

Fab stuff guys!! This could have been a @montydog song but it's not. It could have been a @Wicked Deeds song but it's not. It has a lot of both of you in it but the sum is greater than the part. Wonderful backing (esp enjoyed the strings!) and stellar vox, a truly beautiful pieces from start to finish. Can't see how this could possibly be improved so no constructive criticism from me I'm afraid. Going back for another spin now, well done guys!
