Well I've just about finished the music and production for this song

I choose not to go into the personal details of this one.

just to see what anyone might make of it

Feedback or criticisms would be most welcome!

fold yourself away

fold yourself away

start to dig deep
mud up to your elbow
what will people think?
the truth's hard to swallow
          and  lies  leave  you  hollow

fold yourself away

is that really you?
standing by the window
reflections of time
your body's in limbo
       but  there  is  no  sin

fold yourself away

don't stop and fall
don't get into trouble
break through the wall
step out of he rubble
       a  body  double

fold yourself away
fold yourself away
fold yourself away
fold yourself away

It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.

I can promise you a future of slow decline.

Don't eat the yellow snow

And there you have it.

This lyric, to me, is a description of how I am sometimes. Maybe often? I hide my real self and project a false image to the world. The "break through the wall" line fits well too. When I'm feeling walled in because I'm hiding, I get lonely and want to break through the wall to something real.

Hey there,
Finding it hard to connect with this. Is it you talking to yourself, or you talking to someone else. I don't know, would really like to. Not saying it's badly written, just a little vague. But as you say, it's personal, and it looks like it's gonna remain that way. Interesting though.

Being American, I couldn't come up with a meaningful definition of "fold yourself away."  It's obviously an expression that means something to most of your listeners, but I've never heard it before, and can't figure it out.

@rightly,

I often enjoy songs without explanations of how they came to be. I'm a big fan of rhyming lyrics when they are done well.  The highlight for me is the lyric  "don't get into trouble. Break through the wall, step, out of the bubble".  I guess this one is  a mystery for the writer only to full understand.

American... What?

why would anyone fold something and put it away

do you fold garbage before
discarding it?

what about a letter from a dead parent
is that not folded and put away at some point?

I don't want to spell it out any more clinically than that
Maybe the songs is just a bad one
or the phrase simply has zero meaning?

I can't help you
