First song of the new year, a song about hope in difficult times. Has (imho) a nice build so hang in there, the climax is coming  ;D

@MonnoDB was (as always) a great help when writing the lyrics.

All and any input welcome, I will most likely go back and tweak this once I get some distance to it.t

It crept up upon us
Like mist in the night
Present but nothing to fear
But slowly the danger
It really took hold
And the ship became harder to steer

Batten the hatches
Hold lovers close
The path will get rougher
More souls will be lost

Where there's a will
there is a way
Where there’s hope
still at play
We know that each and every night
Brings a new and brighter day
Where there’s a will
There’s a way
To find the strength to carry on
Until this burden is lifted
We need to stay strong

Look left and look right
There is nothing in sight
That serves as a shelter from harm
We try hard to mask
The damage that we’re tasked with
To shield from, to limit, to calm

Close all the doors
The windows and more
You can’t see the threat
So assume you’re at war

Where there's a will
there is a way
Where there’s hope
still at play
We know that each and every night
Brings a new and brighter day
Where there’s a will
There’s a way
To find the strength to carry on
Until this burden is lifted
We need to stay strong

Stay calm
Carry on
Together we’ll weather
The storm, it will pass
Hang on
Stand fast
The sun, it will rise
The night will not last

Where there's a will
there is a way
Where there’s hope
still at play
We know that each and every night
Brings a new and brighter day
Where there’s a will
There’s a way
To find the strength to carry on
Until this burden is lifted
We need to stay strong

Hola @Jambrains

Happy 2021

Your song leads me to imagine that I take dance steps, slowly, in tune with your rhythm, a dance that involves a reality that can be that of now and that of other times because in reality everything is always there. Very beautiful composition and arrangement, I have loved it, a soft and subtle way of putting on gloves to pull the rope and get clean water from the well. Congratulations, I enjoyed it very much.

Beautiful song! Love the multiple string parts - is there a mandolin in there?! Really well constructed build and breakdown with great harmonies... love the way it has some sea shanty flavour to tie in with the lyrics... and it’s a great uplifting feel to strengthen our resolve in these tough times... really great👌
Sound formed in a vacuum may seem a waste of time...

Hi @Jambrains This is a waltz is it not? @man made material has summed it up very well. For me, I cannot think how this could be improved - it is a brilliant piece of work. Catchy chorus, strong, uplifting lyrics, first class production, arrangement and vocals. Sounds like it's coming out of the radio. What a track. Love it. Among the very best you've ever done IMHO.

@Jambrains

HNY!

Great production, loved the ac guitar sounds and the vocals, really nice. Quality production and song. Not really to my taste, but I recognise quality!

Cheers

Lovely crisp and clean production @Jambrains and excellent build and use of space. The tone that you get on the acoustic is fabulous and yeah ! We're treated to a JB guitar solo as well. Excellent

Love those acoustic guitars and how you sing with them.......this tune builds perfectly. That second chorus absolutely grabbed me by the.....well, it was a visceral experience. And then the way you bring it down........fantastic.

And you were right about the end.......hmmmmm.....I would have liked that last piano note to linger a bit more.

Another Jambrains tune that sounds like a record.

@moraamarolaloba ; thanks for your kind and encouraging words, happy 2021 to you as well!

@man made material: thanks for the positive feedback! Yes, that is a mandolin in there :-)

@montydog: wow! Thanks a mill Alan! Yes, it is a waltz, or at least 3/4. Not sure if the time signature alone makes it a waltz or if there are additional criteria to be met as well.

@Jamie: thanks for taking the time to listen an comment, much appreciated.

@pompeyjazz: Thanks pal!

@Unclenny: thanks you so much, appreciated! Yes, you do have a point regarding the last piano note, I'll look into it before releasing, thanks for pointing it out

Guitars grabbed me from the start. Very nice. Builds well, vocals are great. Might be my favourite thing I've heard of yours so far. Your probably not looking to change it but your change around 2:30 could do with some intense guitar in there too just to lift itand maybe lead straight in to the guitar solo without the drop out. That just kills the pace of it for me. A good listen all the same

Would love to pick your brains some time on how to record acoustic guitars that sound as good and clear as that! Great song & great recording. Very memorable chorus. Part of me would have a like a more melodic guitar solo played higher up the neck in that bit at 3ish mins in, but part of me also liked it a lot exactly how it was.

Guitar is great in this one, JB!

No surprise there...but a timely reminder of just how good guitars can sound in the right hands!

Excellent lyrics...very nicely sung too...nicely restrained...something else I'd struggle to accomplish!

Great work :)

Brilliant!! We're supposed to offer crits but this is spot on. A lovely arrangement and the message is crystal clear, and it's optimistic. I love it :)
