Hi All,

New year - New genre to experiment with  :)

This time we're taking you back a few decades to a smoky Soho Jazz club. Wanted to keep this one simple and concentrate on atmospherics so it's only 6 tracks, Drums, Bass, Piano, Sax, + 2 vocals. Initially I was going to attempt to "croon" but discovered that I can't do that  ;D

Technical stuff... Drums - Ezdrummer, Piano - Addictive keys (Jazzish), Sax - Bob Reynolds Soundkit, Bass - Air Ignite, Vocals - Reacomp, Convology, ReaEq

Sit back, relax, and pour yourself a dry Martini  :)

I caught the eye of a beautiful stranger
Staring at me across the room
Far away look
But not so far away soon

Said hello to the beautiful stranger
Sultry looks put me in a trance
Then she asked me if I would care to dance

The night was young
And the moon was bright
We kissed and then to my delight
She said to me – Want to take me home ?

I grabbed my coat
She took her bag
The rain was steady, I hailed a cab
Heading out of London for the ride

Oh You know I met a beautiful Stranger
His Gaze has given me fever’s night
He impressed me so much
my soul Is in danger

I fell in love with a beautiful stranger
We loved and danced after all night through
He puts me in a trance
Hope it will never last

The night was young
And the moon was bright
We kissed and then with delight
I said to him – Want to take me home?

he grabbed his coat
I took my bag
The rain was steady, he hailed a cab
Heading out of London for a ride

Great atmospherics, pour me a drink I like this club. :) Very sultry, but let’s be honest, this never happened and you actually went home with your ugly male mate! 😫

Fabulous mood captured though, to be serious, and a very sumptuous duet, you sound great together.  The double bass line is fab and sets up this cool for cats tune so well.

I’m definitely transported now to that Smokey crowded club full of half cut people in expensive clothes, while the cool band plays on through the night. Very evocative piece, like a movie brought to life through music. Great work both! :)

well
I love that classy laid back style
Bass & drum, then sax
classy
then there's your voice - very human. rough, insistent, very real and pointed.
and the smooth lady Ce mez voice, femine and sensual in contrast.

Well done!!
It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.

Hola @pompeyjazz

Ha sido una experiencia estupenda!! It has been a great experience!!! I love this club, love too Martini although with a single sip it already makes me drunk ...
I love how you describe the scene, very smart. Very good atmosphere in that club, you have portrayed it with great elegance and flavor and the voices are at their point. Nice job. hip!

@pompeyjazz,

Lyrics are unambiguous which really helps the song to quickly communicate the story.  Great transition from verse to chorus. I can't help but hope that you deliver a big chorus immediately after that but this song is not structured that way. The title is introduced several times though not as a focal point.   It's a really interesting musical canvass, from the cool drums to the dominating bass and of course the delightful saxophone. You're both on top form with the vocals too!

Hi @pompeyjazz Very effective and authentic sounding piece of jazz noir. The double bass playing is superbly effective in particular. The female vocals are spot on and provide a lovely contrast to your growled vocals. You tell the story very well and I'm transported into this world even more as the sax cuts in. Can't think of any way I'd change this. An excellent example of your skills.

Beautiful bass pattern. Nice male and female vocals. Keep it up!
But it feels that sometimes the drums and the bass are out of sync.

Jazz, Niiiice😉 great atmosphere, love that double bass, really like the contrast between the gravely male vocal and smooth female vocal, the production sounds great, perhaps tightening up some of the timing would ice it though. Niiiice😎
Sound formed in a vacuum may seem a waste of time...

@moraamarolaloba - Thank you Mora - I'm so glad that you thought it was hip and enjoyed the ambience  :)

@Wicked Deeds Thank you Paul - It was a bit of a gamble doing something more stripped back than usual and lots of focus on vocals so glad that it worked for you

@montydog - Thanks a lot Alan - I tried to croon, but that didn't work out  ;D ;D So I'm afraid you're stuck with my gravelly vox

@Maya Clars - Thanks so much for the listen - Its Jazz  8) 8) 8)

Great authentic sounds here. Shame about the lack of crooning but it does give a great combination and contrast of vocal styles.
Perhaps a breakdown in one of the sections (e.g just bass and drums) could also work well? The solo section provides a great contrast too though.
Nice way to tell the story from two different points of view.
Niiiiiiiiiice!
