What's wrong with you?

A good friend wrote this song with her special somebody in mind.
I realised how good it was and set about producing and eventually performing it.

I'd like any kind of feedback.

https://soundcloud.com/2rightly/whats-wrong-with-you-1

what's wrong with you?

so many ways to slip inside
let down the guards n' cut all ties
cause confusion or find solutions
what's the master plan?

miles apart the sky is big n' blue
so many broken dreams to get to you
in the darkness, you're my witness
the light in my hands

what's wrong with me?
what's wrong with you?
we're dancing in the doldrums n' the distance lies between us
like an empty room

weary heart try as you might
do you still have the will to fight?
set the motion, drink the potion
lift the blanket ban

deep inside there is a mystery
everybody has a history
it's kind of hazy, a little crazy
it's written in the sand

what's wrong with me?
what's wrong with you?
the ocean waves are whispers n' the water holds a secret
like a song unsung

what's wrong with me?
what's wrong with you?
we're dancing in the shadows n' the distance lies between us
like an empty room
is it all just a dream, just a dream?

I would know that this was you before you started singing which I think is a real achievement - you have such a distinctive sound. I think the production is well up to your excellent standards - I particularity liked the string arrangement. Your vocals are spot on as usual and the whole effect is of an out of body sort of experience. I liked it very much.

Just catching up on all the stuff on the forum over the last 10 days or so. Another incredibly inventive track from you @rightly I love the slightly distorted strings and some of the effects that you use. This is melodic and dreamy too with tons of atmosphere. It seems almost "other worldly" Fabulous  :)

Hi Rightly, well this is a bit different for you structurally, with recognisable verses and choruses following a pattern. Sung by somebody else and with a slightly different arrangement it could be considered a conventional pop song, but nothing wrong about that. You’ve pulled that conventional elements apart though with your other worldly vocals and synth sounds using off beat tones and artistic colourings that make this ...well, a very Rightly number after all.

I bet it surprised your friend when she heard it, but I am sure she loved it all the same. Unique as ever.
My latest novel: pls check it out!

‘Gavin & The Bodysnatchers’, a quirky comedy crime thriller. Easily found on Amazon.

Hi Mr. R, I can  tell from the start this is one of your confections 8). Yet, it is clearly very different from your own writing work. I think it's the structure and chords that are more conventional ,but still you still impart and impose your style onto them.
As always an interesting and intriguing listen!

Cheers

Great stuff...I've no idea how you do it...a mix of different styles that makes a unique style of its own. Little touches of genius sprinkled liberally throughout...no rules or conformity...just doing it your own way.

Brilliant.

Hola @rightly

I love the low sound of the bow double bass, it softens the highs and I'm a fan of that. As of 1'08 the song acquires another color due to the melody, very successful although sometimes I have perceived a little sonic chaos but since for me everything is a dance when I listen this one relaxes me.
The voices that appear from time to time give it a touch of mystery although everything has a soft smell of decadence.

@rightly,  I can  hear your productions developing with each song that you present.  You've created a song that is both melodic and interesting.  unsettling at times, due to the almost avant grade approach employed. Love your use of brass, something that's I recently took inspiration from when I cobbled together my cov challenge.  It's always a pleasure to hear your work my friend.

I really like the slightly disturbing feel of this song, like the protagonist is wrestling with the situation whilst in an alcohol induced haze, I can almost imagine him staggering around the room knocking into things, occasionally crying, and looking to the skies before taking another slug of whiskey from the bottle... very interesting listen 👍
Sound formed in a vacuum may seem a waste of time...
