Just saw @kafla 's post, and recently @PaulAds with his Trumpton, funny but it stirred quite something, so it got me wondering what are Your top 3 favourite TV themes? I would be especially interested in those outside the UK.

For what it's worth my Top 3 are ..

Animal Magic, followed closely by Cap'n Pugwash, then an early Gardeners World when it's on duet of Acoustic guitars....Eat my Shorts Dr (EDM) Who, and your funny BBC Radio workshop shenannigans....

The rather tenuous relevance is that they all contain hooky motifs, that I can only dream of writing.

Great thread!

And great choices!

Here are my top three

3) To serve them all my days...an unusual one...but my mam and dad would always watch this on a Sunday evening...and loved it. It always reminds me of home.

2) Just Good Friends...I loved this at first...not just for Jan Francis. The show went on way too long and turned to shite...but that's success for you  :) I couldn't find the end theme on it's own...so you can watch the whole of the opening episode if you like...but the end theme at 25:20 is lovely.

1) The Sweeney. Harry South. Two for the price of one. My band comes on stage to this...and throws the towel in to it too. It's also a masterclass in arrangement...because it starts off big and bold with fists flying as though they really mean business...which they did...but by the time the end comes round...the same tune plays in a totally different way that leaves you realising that you might win a lot of battles, but, ultimately, it's a losing game...

Used to love this as a kid

And what about the atmospheric Tales of the Unexpected?

And I’ll finish up with Inspector Morse!

what a great thread! here's some more modern ones.

I loved Angel as a kid:

And I am a massive fan of great pop songs masquerading as theme tunes, like these ditties

and, ofc, Friends. we may have all heard it a trillion times but it's still great.

but I think my favourite of all time is X Files

Slight derailment...i recently wrote a parody of the theme song from "cheers" - where everybody knows your name. It never made it to "finished songs" so I thought I could sneak it in here

@jacksimmons

Drake and Josh was a favourite of the bass player in my band’s daughter

We actually played a cover of it at some gigs and it went down really well - it is a great choon

Some of us are showing our age here aren’t we  ;D ;D

To bring us up to date, the Strike theme tune by Beth Rowley
[/youtube] is a brilliantly haunting start to a great show.

A number of American shows use great music and it’s amazing how often we watch shows and reach for Shazam then Spotify to check songs and add Them to a playlist.  Shows like The Resident or New Amsterdam have been a Rich source of songs.

Just thought of a couple more. The first one is an absolute classic.

And the second one, I can't quite remember the theme but the program used to terrify me !!!
