I hesitate to call this poetry but I've added a few more words to a little idea inspired by listening to a piano track by a friend on Soundcloud from a while ago now.

This is the track that inspired the words, Philip Dupuis writes some very nice music IMHO.

I'd completely forgotten about these words until just now when I rediscovered them so I've add a bit more. I've no idea if it works but I wanted to capture a feeling if i could.

It's a bit dark I guess ;-)

Reflections and Refractions

The light is caught by sheets of glass
reflected hope as vehicles pass
But dark is night and swallows whole
my tattered, torn, unworthy soul

Scarred by life, but scared of death
I count the weight of every breath
and through dark windows sometimes find
a glimpse of hope I'd left behind

For in the dark a tiny spark
may yet renew my broken heart
fling open doors once sealed so tight
against the pain of healing light

The shuttered windows keep me sane
as sunlight beats against the pane
and as night falls I dare to peek
outside these walls into the street

So shadow wrapped I watch and wait
with tumbling thoughts about my fate
How did I come to this impasse
As light is caught by sheets of glass

I really like this a lot. I would call it poetry. It's so tight and the rhythm is very consistent (except for the impasse line). I really like the rhyme of "spark" and "heart". Very nice!

I would suggest that you put this in the 'lyrics' section.  I loved the music, but couldn't easily see how the lyrics fit it.  That's not a criticism.  I don't have to be able to find it.  It's just fun when I can.

Thanks @CaliaMoko :-)

Hi Verlon @hardtwistmusic,well the reason I didn't put it in the lyrics section is because I don't think of this effort as lyrics.
Certainly they are not intended to fit with Phillips music. I put it in here as it was 'inspired' by the music, another type of artistic output if you will. ;-)

Like I said, and despite the positive comments of @CaliaMoko, I don't really think of myself as any sort of 'wordsmith' but I find it interesting that these words came out after listening to the piece originally, and then more arrived after listening to it again.

Sometimes I think it's worth just going with the flow if a set of words occur to you. I can't see myself doing anything else with it as the music stands on it's own and the music doesn't need anything else.

Hi @MrBouzouki

Absolutely beautiful composition and playing - pretty stunning actually - extremely poignant.

I enjoyed this a lot.
