Well, what a fascinating and fabulous challenge this is turning out to be. This is a top quality submission @PaulAds England expects but neglected to mention is just brilliant. What a great idea for a challenge and fascinating to hear everyone in raw mode

@Paulads,

A quality song from you once again. Love the acoustic guitar.  You've certainly delivered on this challenge. The song has real warmth. A diamond!

@pompey Jazz,

A completely wicked guitar tone, complete with some tasty, unexpected chords.  A great approach to the challenge theme.  I can relate to this as my Mam has been in a care home for many years.  This one tugs at the heart strings and this is so evidently in the excellent vocal.

Well done my friend!

@cowparsley man,  cool intro, I was expecting Cheryl Cole for a moment with that's lovely guitar tone.  Some great lines here :  it's where the chips fry', 'it's where the plates fly' this one has a lovely laid back feel and once again, there is a really uniqu take on the theme of home, different yo all of those posted so far.

Well done

Paul

A song about life:  childhood, relationships, the love of a parent who has Alzheimer's and also the hatred of another who passed away some years ago.  "If I could hop into a time machine I'd say I long for home."

Home

The shoes I'm standing in have seen so many towns.
They've walked a million streets. embracing ups and downs.
I long for home.
I long for home.

My thoughts return to summer days when I was still a boy.
My mother cried to Johhny Ray, the kids played with their toys.
I long for home.
I long for home.

Starting out was easy. 'Aint' it always?
Drinking led to fighting, led to lies.
What dreams may come were all undone.
The moon rose in the sky.

The shoes I'm standing in have seen so many towns.
They've witnessed fireworks, the lovers hiding frowns.
I long for home.
I long for home.

Paris nights, The Berlin wall still haunt me from afar.
The present keeps the past at bay, it holds the door ajar.
I long for home
I long for home

Starting out was easy. 'Aint' it always?
Drinking led to fighting, led to lies.
What dreams may come were all undone.
The moon rose in the sky.

If I could turn the clocks back for a day
or hop into a time machine, I'd say

I long for home.
I long for home.

Lovely song, Paul.

Conjures up some sweet thoughts of times past. My mam's 93 now and really poorly today...so this brought a tear to my eye.

Vocal is fab and I was very surprised to hear you go electric for this one 😀

Thanks @PaulAds,
I think there is much to learn from this challenge. I'm going to be honest and say that I didn't quite deliver with this song. It was almost like writers block which, I never experience. I tried to cook something but my kitchen skills were lacking on this ocassion.

I felt exactly the same...

I think the really interesting part of the challenge is to draw just enough from what we know about writing songs to be able to pull a song together when it isn't really quite doing it for us. I know mine would definitely have got binned had I not said I would do one 😀

I think it just goes to show how much extra work goes into a song to get it from the basic spark of an idea we first have, to where we're usually comfortable enough to release it and consider it finished.

It's a beautifully crafted little number Paul @Wicked Deeds A melancholy feel to the lyrics and the accompanying music. I love the tone that you have on the guitar and there are some killer chords. Another gem in the challenge

OK, I've done mine today. Great idea for a different kind of challenge. Quite pressuring doing it in such a short burst of time though - so obviously a bit rough, but I'm not going to start editing it as I would normally do.

I will comment on all your other songs in the morning, but no energy now, plus just wanted to post this on the 'same day' basis.

It's about lower league football and their long suffering fans - who call their ground, naturally, Home.

At Home

All my life been coming down
To this same spot in this old ground
Behind the goals so I could see
This shower of shite in front of me

Cheered my team through thick and thin
But mostly thin, took it on the chin
I’ve stood here moaning, getting tense
We’ve no attack and no defence

Today the match is halted
Pitch invasion by a cat
Our goalie tries to catch it
But our goalie is too fat

The away fans sing
Can we play you every week?
You’re supposed to be at home
Their team score three
Then they scores four
And we’re not singing anymore
Til some daft prick of ours tries starting
You’ll Never Walk Alone
We naturally groan
We’re supposed to be at home

Four nil down, here comes the rain
The stand roof’s leaking once again
Oh blow for half time referee
I need a pie and a mug of tea

And with our pies, my mates and me
Recall our glorious history
It might be thirty years and more
But we were champs of Division Four

And on this spot on this terraced slope
Stood with me Dad and clung to hope
Though he passed on, I’m not alone
I bring my lad here to Home

Bloody hell, Michael, I'm sitting here laughing and crying. You really bring the experience to life and make it real. Who could have known what this challenge could inspire? Awesome work.

This is another stroke of genius. It's been fascinating how "Home" has been interpreted in so many different ways. You have got this spot on Michael. I can smell the Bovril and my knees have gone numb.

Great song, Michael 😀

Has a brilliant jangly Johnny Marr vibe and super north of england professional underdog whimsical humour.

I loved playing football but have never really enjoyed watching it. A bit like porn...

A brilliant take.
