Just a thought....I spent many years leaving my hard earned treasures in their cases, only taking them out when I needed them, as a result they are still in pristine condition, (that "my goodness, this is beautiful" moment - every time), but under used.

so last year I took all of them out and now they are ready to pick up and play, which I do much more regularly, they are dusty (but I do dust them) and they are open to the heat and knocks....

I now prefer them being out, but long to have them back in to keep 'em lovely

How about you?

Been there, done that and I am now exactly where you are. Even the cases were pristine. I've moved from town to town and the cases have had a knock or two. strangely that makes it less likely that I will continue to look after them as I once did as the perfection, even that of the cases no longer exists. This is a strange affliction indeed. Maybe I should buy new cases and treasure them all once again.

Recently I noticed I had three acoustic guitars lying on my unmade bed.
Lol. if it doesn't bother me, it doesn't bother anyone.
I casually greet them on returning home.

I've got four guitars that float about my apartment.
I can only think of one in its case, the one I stole from my father back when I had none and he had one he didn't play.

Bumps n scratches I usually try to see as enhancements.
This pristine obsession has never contaminated my spirit.

It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.

@rightly - there is a Spanish Luthier that once he finishes a guitar makes a small scratch in the back, as he wants to be the first, sort of a signature.

Mine are all out, not that I use them that much (but I have really good intentions, so there they are, readily available, just in case). I hate having to go to all the work of opening the case to get a guitar out to play it. Pure laziness. So they just go in cases when they're traveling.

As much as I would love to have all 7 on display most are in cases - but I ALWAYS have 1 hanging in the living room to pluck off the wall and play

I usually rotate them to get the different feel/vibe when noodling

Yes I agree.

I keep mine in their little coffins mostly.
My piano prefers it that way for some reason  :D
