So after a period that seemed to last longer than Motown itself I submit a song to the Alien Genre Challenge.
With a verse unintentionally but gloriously nicked from @PaulAds  & recorded like Motown would have sounded in 1860 the song was heading for a slow death.
Thankfully TheFuneralCrasher lived up to his name, crashed the funeral, revived the victim, smacked it about mercilessly, added bits & pumped it full of energy like a radioactive chlorinated chicken. The brilliant @pompeyjazz also stepped forward with some great work.
It was only due to @PaulAds hard work that I completed the challenge so I`m very grateful to him. Just let me know when the next AGC challenge is & I`ll book my holidays on the other side of the world. ;D

Angels in the Snow

I may be broke but I`m not broken
My spirits free & it has spoken.
Papas got a brand new handbag & mamas got a brand new toy while I`m hanging with my angels in the snow.

I `d hoped that you`d grow some “cojones” but you took my heart & left me homeless.
Papas got a brand new handbag & mamas got a brand new boy while I`m hanging with my angels all around.

I`m making angels in the snow cos we`ve got nowhere to go.
I don`t know if the north wind blows in Los Angeles but it sure as hell does here.

Hope finds a way of being lied to.
Cheap lays & layabouts entice you.

I`m making angels in the snow cos we`ve got nowhere to go.
I don`t know if the north wind blows in Los Angeles but it sure as hell does here.
I`ve got my angels all around.
Somehow lost but never found.
I don`t know if the north wind blows in Los Angeles but it sure as hell does here.

You`re out there galavanting somewhere.
I`m up late reading books on childcare.

I`m making angels in the snow cos we`ve got nowhere to go.
I don`t know if the north wind blows in Los Angeles but it sure as hell does here.
I`ve got my angels all around.
Somehow lost but never found.
I don`t know if the north wind blows in Los Angeles
BUT IT SURE AS HELL DOES HERE.

The challenge that keeps on giving! There's something brilliant about those drums that just transports us to another era. Lovely details on the snaps and bells and BVs.

Cojones and homeless is my second favourite rhyme of 2020! (Sorry, can't quite topple ubiquitous and stick with us!)

Super fun to listen to - the original was cool too but this one just has a few more sparkly bits.

I'd have been happy to add some Grandad Hip Hop rap, but sadly wasn't asked  ;)

The chorus of this is very authentic catchy Motown. Your forum buddies really helped you polish this one up @5 guys named Lars. I liked it the first time I heard it, but now with added bells and whistles it is just perfect. Well done for getting to the heart of your assigned genre.

You know, there hasn't been one bad song submitted yet - all of them have a lot to offer, and this one is no exception. Well done on persevering and delivering something so worthwhile.
My latest novel: pls check it out!

Thanks for the nice words @adamfarr & @MichaelA.
I´ve only been on this forum for a short time but have been overwhelmed by how much help & support I have been given (or offered) from various members passing on their knowledge & expertise. Hopefully if I get better I can help others in time. I am really chuffed I got onto this site. Thanks guys. :)

I just quickly wanted to say how much John and I enjoyed helping out on this...I say "helping out" but we really loved this song as soon as we heard it...we're both massive Motown fans...and we were more than happy to be associated with this song :)

I think Chris is a real talent and was I just trying to get the best version we could of this down without losing any of the magic that the original demo had.

I was getting a bit bogged down in mixing all the parts...I'm not used to having much more than half a dozen tracks on anything...and I'm basically a Luddite at heart.

This challenge has really brought out some of the best of the forum...there's been a lovely spirit of co-operation and mutual support...and it's produced some great songs. This is one of my favourites.

I didn't read the explanation/description before listening and pretty soon I'm thinking, "Boy, this guy sure sounds a lot like PaulAds!" Then I read it. Ah...no wonder....

Anyway, this is very catchy, energetic, fun to hear, and right up my alley. It sounds like a lot of fun. No nits from me.

@5 guys named Lars - Well done all 7 of you, sounds great, absolutely nailed the genre. A very christmassy Detroit vibe.

To be fair, only 2 really worked on the track. The 5 Lars`s  took the week off & spent the time discussing amongst themselves the advantages of fiscal initiatives in Venezuelan agriculture and watching porn. Fortunately the non-Lars´s actually did some music.

Thanks for the nice comments guys.

Ooh ooh ooh!

Hey what a catchy little pop song you boys have come up with here! Great chorus/title hook which bears all the repeats.
Motown in the UK!
Love the bass here Paul...sounds really good on those drums.
Those ooh backing vocals are so catchy...who would've thought. Just oohs but so effective here. Enjoyed both lead vocals too!
And definitely a fade-out ending song here to silence the fade-out ending haters!

Great job. Great song Mr 5 Guys.
Take it easy.

You can check my stuff out here. Mini-album getting bigger slowly. Free download if you're poorer than me.
