Questions about this publishing company: they contacted me to offer me somethin

(1/1)

jdoe83fr:
Hi,

I've been contacted by a recording/publishing company called "Triumph recordings". Its not a big one.

But anyway, what they propose me is to promote me as a songwriter and maybe later as an artist.

For the songwriting part: They offer me unlimited backing tracks, I would only wrote the lyrics and melody... for 300£..

I already once was contacted by an artist development company that wanted to promote me as an artist but I refuse because I dont really want to pay anything (I mean you're not supposed to right?)

Triumph recordings also told me that royalties would be 50/50 which is normal and they could also published my own materials in the future.

From what I understood it wouldn't be compulsory to use the unlimited backing tracks but I'm not sure.

Do you guys have been contacted by these kind of companies?

What do you think about that....

Thanks

My advice under these circumstances would be not to sign anything until you've had the contract looked at by a professional or someone with experience.

The musicians union offers legal advice to its members - I don't know how much the union fee is these days, but it's probably good value compared to a solicitors fee.

Definitely get some professional advice before going ahead though.

Thanks

I actually send my application to the guild of songwriters, they also offer free legal advices so I guess I'm gonna wait that my application is successful and I will ask them for advices.

tone:
Well done - let us know what advice they give you :)
