There are indeed many ways to write a song and I think that this number is one of the most fascinating projects that I have worked on.

I received some vocal stems with the brief "Vocals, 120 BPM, Key C"

The rest was up to me so I had to create a song around the rather fabulous vocals and I hope that I've done them justice.

Vocals are from singer songwriter Cathy Beech and lyrics are by Morphillia Ansell / Keith Fabrique

Hope you enjoy the listen  :)

You kiss my face my body aches
You kiss my neck and I shiver deep
You kiss my shoulder, a sigh escapes
With your kisses my soul comes alive
Give me your kisses to survive
I need you more than you'll ever know

You kissed my breasts and my mind whirls
You kissed my belly and my heart breaks
Then you kissed me deeper my soul escapes
With your kisses my soul comes alive
Give me your kisses to survive
I need you more than you'll ever know

With your kisses my soul comes alive
Give me your kisses to survive
I need you more than you'll ever know
With your kisses my soul comes alive

You take my hand and my heart it glows
You link my arms and my feelings glow
When you kiss me deeper my soul escapes
Mmmmmm....
Mmmmmm....

You did a fabulous job producing the song around the vocals, and you most certainly did justice on those vocals, which was stunning. Excellent work! :)

Mmmm......yummy stuff. Love the backing track - perfect for the song and vocal delivery which is gorgeous BTW. Made me go all funny. Might have to listen again, and again, and again :-)
Rather wonderful and very sexy.

Great work John! mix is well balanced and the music you created around the Vox
is lovely and enhances a really great vocal track, well done!

Hi John, great collaboration, you hit the nail on the head with the backing track for this one. Didn't sound like anything I've heard from you before which makes it even better! Great work with a great singer and melody.

Cheers

Had my Soundcloud on the other day and when I heard this voice singing about kissing her breasts it certainly got my attention!

Very challenging way of working - though in reality our progressions should always be following the melody rather than the other way around. The "bass solo" part is a great addition. And it must be great to receive a quality vocal like that. Could be the recording but perhaps the vocal is a bit compressed or could do with a bit more high end shine?
Anyhow, very nice work

John, liking the sentiment, sound and vocals.
It really gets going when the percussive lets step in after the first chorus.
Two thoughts: I found the minor/major changes slightly odd and I think I wanted a bit more variation between verses and chorus so that there were more dynamics.
Cool, imagine it’s quiet hard working that way around.

@pompeyjazz - Yes, as others have said it's an extremely tricky way to work, but you have nailed it, (as @Neil C  said, the maj/min movement sounds a little awkward, but that's what you had to do if the Vox line goes that way.)

One of the restriction's is that you have limited BV options, but there are ways round it.
  • Copy the Vocal track
  • From your DAW export or bounce it to a local wav file
  • Import it into Melodyne (make sure you have plenty of buffers
  • Move the individual notes so that they sit nicely as a harmony
  • Remove more notes than you think
  • Export yo wav
  • Import into your song, have them low'ish in the mix
  • Carefully position them and solo against the LVox track
  • Bingo instant harmony

The great thing about it is that the breaths and dynmaics of the harmony lines are perfectly matched to the vocal line that you used, so they sound super tight.

A superb voice, and a bit like Ernie Wises' hairpiece you can't see the join.

A lot of work and a great result.

If someone kissed my belly, I'd be asleep by the time they finished..

Hi PJ,

You've done a good job indeed.
I like the synth sounds you introduce around 3 mins and the additional what sounds like guitar.
Strong vocal performance.
Genre - quite hard to define - which is a plus point I think - makes it stand out.
A bit too cheery for me - but heck we need it in these times.

Really tough to build around a vocal in this way, I'm sure...especially when the voice and the lyric is providing so many distractions of their own  :P

This is really catchy, pretty foxy sounding and quite infectious...not quite of global pandemic proportions, of course, but certainly more than enough to ruffle a few feathers, i'd imagine.

Canny-looking lass, too...which was a relief...as i remember reading a few of those "real life romance" features in cheap magazines lying around at work many years back...where you'd be reading this story of great romance and you'd turn the page, and the protagonist would invariably look like something Dr Frankenstein knocked up in his lunch hour.

Quite brave of her to sing something so stark at times, I think...but she certainly pulled it off  ::)

Super job, PJ!

What a fantastic opportunity to be sent such  great vocal stems and given carte blanche to come up with a track. I think you've created  a really good original song, my only comment is that there is not much differentiation between verse/chorus etc as the song progresses. Loved the bass  solo though ; very  enjoyable track.

Hi,
This voice track is beautiful, it must be said!
Your accomodation is quite successful, you created a good atmosphere  :)
I agree with what was said on the slightly linear side between verse and chorus, but it's a detail because the song works well.
Great!
