Hello

This event happens every year where people get together to waffle about or otherwise acknowledge the legacy of The Clash.

I wrote a song especially for the occasion...i was musing over what Joe Strummer would have done or said in certain situations...and then it morphed into something after I remembered something my wife said about telling our kids to consider what their dad (me 😃) might have suggested doing in a similar position...if I wasn't there to bore them with how I saw things...

Hopefully it doesn't veer off into the morose...

Here's to Joe, Mick, Paul and Topper!

What would Joe have done
Would he just turn and run
When you needed someone
When the pressure was on

Joe would have done his best
Screwed up like all the rest

What would Joe have said
Would he have left you for dead
When you've done all you can
And it still hits the fan

Joe would have said "you win
Whenever you don't give in"

What would Joe have thought
Would he be as easily bought
When you'd lost it all
When you were hitting a wall

Joe would have helped you see
That it's all up to you and me

What would Joe have found
If he'd still been around
Joe would have known
That you're not on your own

heart of stone, feet of clay, knob of butter

Damn, simple and great. Great guitar sound. Love the rhymes and the near rhymes. Very poignant and universal. When I come back in the year 3030 (I have a few questions) I'd be happy if there was an International PaulAds Day...

I like how you've made an acoustic guitar sound so meaty, fitting tribute The The Clash's full bodied sound. Cool tune.

Maybe we should do a competition next year in time for this day - make a song in the style of The Clash. I would be up for that!  8)
My latest novel: pls check it out!

‘Gavin & The Bodysnatchers’, a quirky comedy crime thriller. Easily found on Amazon.

Such a simple arrangement and perfect for the song. Love the lyrics - I am partial to near-rhyming myself and you do it very well here as Adam says..

Another thumbs up to the guitar sound..

Great song!

That acoustic sound is just brilliant Paul. I love the sentiments and minimalism. I wonder what Joe would say these days if he was still around

Now you have me inspired to try a simple 1+1. Maybe. If I still feel like it tomorrow. Or next week. Or whenever....

I always enjoy your music, Paul.

That's a super acoustic sound 8) I reckon Joe would've invited you to be a member of the band. 8)

Awesome song Paul. Really enjoyed it. Would love to hear a full electric version of this too.
