It's 'long' in terms of being 'tall/long' but it's really 'narrow' too, so it's no surprise that it's not 'time long.'
As always, the lyric is brilliant. Haven't yet figured out the significance of the title, but that actually enhances the lyric. It's interesting enough, I'll probably look up 'Neptune' to see if I can figure it out. That's an investment that most lyrics can't provoke.
Neptune was the God/King of the sea in Greek Mythology. Not really evil, but quite dangerous and unpredictable (like the sea itself). He was Poseidon's rival and was banished to his undersea kingdom. Somewhat like Satan was, but his is a 'watery hell' not a 'fiery hell.'
Okay, now to go look up Neptune.
After looking up Neptune: --- Actually, Neptune IS Poseidon. Neptune is the Roman version of the Greek "God/King of the Sea." He is the Brother of Zeus, the king of the gods. He is a rival and was banished. I'm thinking that the "neptune/Satan/banished" concept has some meaning in this lyric. Been very interesting.
Like Satan, Neptune was banished for leading an unsuccessful rebellion against the King/God. Like Satan, he is too close a relative to the King/God to just kill and end. It would be unseemly. Like Satan, Neptune unwittingly carries out the "will of God/Zeus" by opposing him for eternity.
