This one won't cheer anyone up!  ;D

The black eye stares
But doesn't see
The crackhead floats
But he's never free

The fire is dark
Awaits the match
No ember to kindle
No flame to catch

I wish I'd something left to wish for
I wish I cared
I'd step over the edge for you
If I dared

The house lies silent
No piano plays
Not even the echo of yesterdays

Cold and empty
Reality thin
A home's just a building
When no one's in

I wish I'd something left to wish for
I wish I cared
I'd step over the edge for you
If I dared

So I get to give the first comment @Skub .. Appropriate really for a song that won't cheer anyone up, I reckon :) !!! Of course that's not entirely true as a lover of dark songs, I'm very happy to listen to this so it has cheered me up!

I just love the lyrics... they're fab.. evoke that despair perfectly. And even more than that I really like the folky twinge to it all.. yeah you've got your guitar solo and rock elements but really to me it's a folk song with those lovely harmonies and it brings me a bit of Fairport Convention which can never be anything but good..

Oh, and gotta love that nordie accent in the spoken part!!

Just fab really Davy! I love it!

Brilliant lyrics, Davy...really concise and thought-provoking.

Great sounds and production too...quite a muscular feel to it.

Twin vocal works really well...an excellent number.

really cool song. Somehow Mark Knopfler comes to my mind! Keep up the good work! Very good Lyrics too.

What a brilliant song, Davy! :) Great music, the guitar is fantastic, the lyrics are brilliant and the production is perfect.

Not the most cheerful of songs, but it def made my day :)

I loved it!

Whato @Skub - very you..instantly recognisable, tidy production, as always...thoughtful lyrics.

Maybe pull back on the phaser on the BV’s, i got the reason why they were there, just a little too obvious?

BVox tight as hell.

Fret gymnastics well...as always Davy. Very accomplished

Love the darkness of this one Davy - lyrics are desperate and real. I like the whole vibe. The dual vocals work really well and the guitar is superb. Nice bit of spanky bass in there as well. Like the solo, slightly unusual but works very well. Makes you sit up and pay attention. Another mighty fine piece of work Davy

Hey old 'n  ;)   Still at it then ;D ;D

Lovely song old chap.  Nice to hear your vocals properly again ;D .  (still not 100%, but getting there)
You've certainly got those DS runs, and sounds sorted ;D .  Although a bit dirtier here...which was nice.
Really liked the lyrics and the vocals.  Great arrangement and layering.  My only thought was that little break
around 1.50....threw me off track a bit, just as I was getting lost in your magnificence ;D .  (taste)

Always admire your work my friend.  Hope all is well.....take care ;D ;D

Hi Davy,

Cracking intro. Feint hints of Sweet Emotion with that "Synthy?" sound - or is it guitar/vocal volume swells of some kind?
Anyway - sounds great.

Some really cool riffs in this.
It does have a dark edge - more so from the vocal delivery than the music perhaps.
It's a good contrast; the music drives it along whilst the vocal pulls you back.

Solo was very tasteful.

Really well produced.

Hi Davy, this won't cheer anyone up ;)

Mind it is superbly moody and evocative with a great build. The guitaring is top drawer stuff and the chorus really cuts through, both melodically and lyrically. Definitely one of your best songs in my view, just a great combination of songwriting and then a top arrangement to carry it off.

Excellent stuff...not worthy and all that!

Loved the double tracked vocals in this.
With any Skub song I find myself anticipating the guitar solo with baited breath... and this one delivered big time. Even better than your usual outstanding fretsmithery. 😄
Very nice track indeed and it doesn’t come across as overly sombre, despite the lyrics. I think the backing treatment gives it a swagger that offets the despair in the words very nicely.
It's all too beautiful.

 Nice one Skub
You inspire me consistently.

As I was listening to this.
My lovely daughter sent me a rare message, telling me she thought the Adams family is boring, she proceeded to reprimand me for texting during class time.
For crying out loud!  The youth of today!
The line "i'd step over the edge for you" got to me emotionally.

Thanks Skub.
It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.

I can promise you a future of slow decline.

And there you have it.

Hiya Davy. Great lyrics and great song. I agree with Rightly re the lyric "I would step over the edge for you' it packs a very emotional punch. The melody, guitar, production and mixing are all excellent. Faultless really. I actually find it enjoyable to listen to despite the subject matter because it's just a a great classic rock song. Thanks for keeping the genre alive!
