I find that there are so many different starting points for writing a song. This one originated from a bass riff that I had banging around my head and developed from there. It kind of morphed into bit of a nod to Barrie Masters of Eddie and The Hot Rods - "Do What You Want To Do" - Anyway, I hope it captures that kind of energy  :)

When I went to school it was a lonely place
Had mud kicked in my face
What a lesson learned
Then I grew up and found out the plan
Life's lessons made you a man
Undeterred

Anything you want to you can do
Ain't nobody stopping you
Don't let anybody put you down
Just fight back and turn your life around

Went to work in a factory
Slaving for the company
Day and night
Pushing for productivity
Yes, it's down to you and me
Fight the fight

Anything you want to you can do
Ain't nobody stopping you
Don't let anybody put you down
Just fight back and turn your life around

Do what they say
Don't get in the way
You'll work it out some day

Anything you want to you can do
Ain't nobody stopping you
Don't let anybody put you down
Just fight back and turn your life around

(c) Bradley - 2019

@pompeyjazz - Superb bass sound, Stranglers to a Tee, LVox could have been even more balls out, total shouting wouldn't sound out of place, one does feel an utter pillock when tracking, but easy to go off beam...

Very nice John.

Hi John, great energy, I agree with CPM about the Stranglers vibe, very Jean Jacque sounding Bass! Liked the harmonics under the brass stabs. Yes def a punk flavour to this.

Good stuff, always sounds good, great production.

Cheers

Caught this yesterday, was still humming it last night. Great sound going on here - great energy as has been noted and gotta love that bassline - another quality track from the PJ magic song factory! Great stuff altogether!

Hey Mr pomp’s,

Love the bass line, you tell that was the instigator.

Vocals are sounding sharp, you’re developing a real Rod Stewart tone these days.

Personal preference, I think I’d have liked the horns balanced up on both sides, or maybe som alternate panning.

Nice track though man.

Ya gotta give that bass guitarist a raise man - what a talent ;)
Great punky sound - your vox totally suit this song.
Enjoyed the ride (and the hat too!)

Yo @pompeyjazz

Awesome opening sequence John, straight in and grabs the listener by the closest appendage!

Love that ringing guitar sound. Full of New Wave goodness. Quite a thumping live feel too. Dig that Tele neck being bent!

Magic stuff.  8)

Yessir, that's a bassline to be proud of. I love the super chunky sound of it. Great track all round and I dug the positivity of the lyrics too.
It's all too beautiful.

John,
Liking the energy of the bass and drum. Enjoyed the guitar work and your vocal performance.
I love power pop, I'm getting the motors in there somewhere too.
My only thought is around the title, I think it should be something from the chorus
Cool

How do, John

Bass just about manages to steal the show ahead of the brilliant vocal...in fact, it's a perfect storm of sound. We play "do anything you wanna do" every week - so I was bound to love this...and sure enough...

A feel good song. One day I will write one of those (actually probably I won't).

Sounds like you had fun with it and that transmits. I could see myself bopping along to this at a festival... Cool!

Great motivational song. Lots of stubborn energy, perfect dynamics. Those short tones and breaks enhanced powerful impression.
