 Hi there,

My name is Steven Hill and I’m a singer-songwriter from Lincolnshire. I wrote a Halloween song and would like to know what you think about it. Please let me know what you think of the song itself (lyrics, melody, theme), the production & if it’s worthy of making it onto your Halloween Party Playlist this year!  :) Any comments, questions or insights much appreciated. Many thanks!

Steven Hill - Halloween

Written, Recorded, Performed & Produced by Steven Hill.

Lyrics:

Have you checked underneath your bed for a monster
Have you looked outside in the middle of the night
Well look out they’re about but don’t shout ‘cause they might hear you
And nothing bites their appetite like a scream

I hate to remind you
But look out behind you

It’s trick or treatment of the scary kind
You can run but you can’t hide
There’s creatures lurking through the night
From haunted movie scenes
Telling stories by the candle light
With candy apples and pumpkin pie
Girls this ain’t no Valentine’s
That shiver down your spine that’s Halloween

Well Halloween couldn’t come any quicker for me
The one night of the year where I get to be, a little crazy
So grab your mask and join the fun
You’ll be filled with fear before the night is done

It’s trick or treatment of the scary kind
You can run but you can’t hide
There’s creatures lurking through the night
From haunted movie scenes
Telling stories by the candle light
With candy apples and pumpkin pie
Girls this ain’t no Valentine’s
That shiver down your spine that’s Halloween

That’s Halloween
I said it’s Halloween!
Yeah yeah yeah
That shiver down your spine that’s Halloween

Very well put together Steven and very professionally performed and produced,  you certainly seem to know what you're doing. For ke it's a bit too cheery for a Halloween song, you know it didn't really scare me  ;D You've also managed a very modern sound, very contemporary. Good work and welcome to the forum  :)

hi steven
i wasnt scared either but enjoyed the song..
fast moving lyric turning over every possible halloween connection..
good vocals and delivery, andrew gold comes to mind.. which isnt a bad thing..
didnt expect the bouncing piano.. a shock in itself when it kicks off but it works..
like the eerie keyboard touches going on..
fine work and welcome
put yourself about, sure youll make a few friends
i may not believe this tomorrow...

 Hi Steve,

Yeah....good song. You've obviously been around the block a few times ;D .  Very pro/commercial sounding stuff.
Love your voice.  You make it sound easy ;D .  Confident and relaxed.  The piano and the bass work really well together,
and drive it along nicely.  Excellent use of the strings......can't fault it.  Top song ;D

Did you record it in a studio ?

Nowt as queer as folk...........my gran

Thanks very much for the kind feedback & warm welcome!

@pompeyjazz
Thank you! And yes, I agree, I tried to keep it on the ‘fun’ side as opposed to the ‘scary’ side :D

@nooms
I’m pleased you picked out the eerie keyboard parts, I had a lot of fun experimenting with different sounds & approaches during the production phase - with such a definite theme, I had to go all-out!

@Binladeda
Really appreciate your comments on the vocals etc. thank you! It wasn’t recorded in a studio, it was done at home. I actually wrote the song a while ago, so it existed as a raw vocal & acoustic guitar idea for some time. Recording & arranging all the instrumental parts was what really brought the song to life (pardon the Halloween pun  :P).

Hi there, welcome.  Fun track!  And very well produced - it does indeed sound very pro and I enjoyed the lounge-jazz inflected vocal style a lot... you've got a great voice.  Nothing I would change for the kind of track it sets out to be... lots to like.  Stick around and post some more.
It's all too beautiful.

Well it scared me as i couldnt stop tapping my foot!!!!

Great track, had a real swing to it...reminded me of a micheal buble sound, clean, polished and great production. Could definitely make a Halloween playlist:)
