Writing songs without using the tonic?

I'm sure you're doing a brilliant job without knowing much of this bland terminology. Sometimes a good set of ears is just all you need.  :)

I have to do a little defence of harmonic theory and musical analysis here. In no way do you need them to do something absolutely beautiful.

But I have found that truly great music is only more beautiful as you start to analyse it and break it down. There just more beauty to be found!!

There is nothing worthy about not understanding it, and understanding can bring real joy :)

IDK I'm a big fan of the tonic  ;D
Songs that don't come home to the tonic are like chapters in a book read without reading the whole book.
