I often write songs in pairs.    I guess this is a partner song to my last one, “I had to go” which dealt with great sadness that I was experiencing then suddenly, something quite beautiful happened in my life.

et puis, l'amour……….

Late One August Day

The morning came, late one August day.
I walked through the rain.
I had cried all a man could cry.
I was lost to my pain.

Then her  eyes looked through a thousand years
since they first looked before,
since they first knew as lovers do,
since they last said "j'adore."

If you're hurting, may I catch you;
hold your heart as it heals?
Let your love flow like a river,
'til it opens, reveals,
feels the truth.

Expressive eyes set in pale white skin.
Such balance and poise.
The sweetest smile, uncertain times,
an escape from the noise.

Unspoken words'til the soul knows well,
'til it bathes in the light,
'til it leaves behind the scars it found
in the darkness of the night.

If you're hurting, may I catch you;
hold your heart as it heals?
Let your love flow like a river,
'til it opens, reveals,
feels the truth.

There's so many miles between us.
Are we hapless, both believers?
Will the universe align to make you mine?
We have travelled through the ages,
Known the court jesters, the sages.
though we've never caught a glimpse of the divine.

Will you be mine?

Perhaps I will remind you who you are.
If we wish upon a star, will you be mine?

The morning came late one August day.

Paul, you are the master of writing songs that tug on the heart stings and this is no exception. Lovely chord progressions and your vocals full of emotion made this a fabulous listen. Hope that things are well in your world mate. Superb song  :)

Hey paul,

You can really get lost in this song, well i certainly did.....love the finger picking only one word to describe it and that is stunning!

Fantastic lyrics loved it.

Well done!

This was fantastic, Paul! As always you write and sing with tons of emotion. Loved the sound of the guitar and the progression and key you played it in :) Hope things are going well for you!

Hi Paul, love the acoustic guitar sounds and picking/chords, sounded great. Your vocals hovering above the guitars works beautifully. Great melody and emotive performance.
Great stuff!
Cheers

Hi Paul, yes a very immersive song indeed. The guitar picking, chord selection and tone are all wonderful. Your vocals hover over this so beautifully as you narrate your poetry.

Full of restrained emotion, yet so mournful despite the hope conveyed. Good work man!
My latest novel: pls check it out!

‘Gavin & The Bodysnatchers’, a quirky comedy crime thriller. Easily found on Amazon.

@pompeyjazz, my world has become quite amazing! 😉

@Sebandme, yes, songs often arrive in pairs and often use similar chords that I favour at the time. Would you say that it's the same for you?

Paul

@LukeArmstrongMusic, fortunately, so many lovely things are happening for me right now. Thank you my friend.

Paul

@Modestmouse1965/ thank you my friend.

Paul

@MichaelA, this does sound more than a little mournful but it is a song of true wonder. I think it conveys the idea of discovering something quite beautiful after many , many struggles. I tried to convey the idea that two lovers have been reunited after many lifetimes apart.

Paul,
Delicate and lovely tune. Some great lines in there, my favourite is ‘ If you're hurting, may I catch you’
Lovely backdrop, space and just sets the lyrics off a treat.
Great lead work too
Going to have another listen

You’ve certainly captured a mood here.

I didn’t hear the first of the pair, but in isolation, this one does the trick.

Even if I didn’t like it, which I do, it seems too personal for anyone’s opinion to count but yours.

Well done.
