Hey guys!
This is not a complete song, still just a 1st verse and the chorus, but just needed to get some thoughts out of my head. I wrote this in honor of my grandpa, who sadly passed away this morning! And I always write music to cope with my feelings, so this is my way of mourning over him.

Leave a Light

Verse
Did it hurt when you left
Or did you find your piece
Oh that smile I can't forget
When you were here with me
When you were alive and well
But now you're a memory
Pushing me each step I take
Striving to make you proud

Chorus
I will leave a light on for when you go
I will leave a light on for you to find home
When the roads get hard and the winters dark
I will always keep you here in my heart
I will leave a light on for when you go
I will leave, I will leave, leave a light on
I will leave, I will leave, leave a light on
Leave a light

Cheers!

I have taken a minute to revise and expand your lyrics!

Leave a Light

Verse
Did it hurt when you departed, after your voyage was complete?
did you find peace and calm to comfort you?
Your smile is something I'll never forget
When you were here with me, alive and well
it warmed the chill of a winter's storm
It radiated, kind, gentle and warm
Now you are a memory
Pushing me each step I take
Striving to make you proud
I say your name and await a reply
but the silence is too loud...

Chorus
I have left a light on for you in my soul
so you can find your way home
so our hearts can be whole
When the roads get hard and the winter's just at the start,
endless & dark
I will always keep you here in my heart
I will leave a light on for when you go
I will leave, I will leave, leave a light on
I will leave, I will leave, leave a light on
Leave a light on for eternity
until we merge again
in a place called home
eternally...

Sorry to hear about your Grandpa Younger Hills

Your feelings are palpable from your lyrics and they are lovely words - I’m not sure how’d they’d transition into a song but with the right music they’d be very touching!

I think you should definitely work more with this, even if just to release some feelings!

Do you have music in mind or are is just lyrics you are looking to write?

Cheers

Darren

@Darren1664 - Thank you so much, Darren!

I did write it with my acoustic, so I have some music in mind for it :)

@Davino - Thank you so much for taking the time to look over these lyrics! :)

Heart-felt writing. You should turn this into a very memorable song in honour of your grandfather.

I like this a lot.  Initially, I didn't see the rhyme scheme in the verse, but once I found it, it's perfect.  Not tooooo "rhymy" but very good near rhymes.

The verse is inspired.  Nothing to say but that I love it.

Hey,

Sorry to hear about your grandpa, I'm sure he would be very touched by the beautiful lyric you wrote in his honour.

yes, I like this
Really good lyrics.
The simply capture the sentiment
Well done.
It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.
