Digging up a lyric from my ol' days. It's a deep, personal story, that I wrote 7 years ago, so it's about time it comes out of the shadows. Will see if I'll get it recorded when I get my new guitar in the house :)

Cheers

42 Days

Verse 1(Old 2nd verse, now 1st)
A bottle of whiskey was my only friend
A world that's spinning, will it ever end
I painted a picture, told only lies
For family and friend who thought I was doing just fine

Chorus
It's been 42 days still counting them
Since I had a drink and went home drunk
I've been sober, put down the bottle, said it was over then
It's been 42 days
42 days
It's been 42 days still counting them

Verse 2
I’ve been delusional living a life in denial
Looking back at life always lying
Step by step I take always wanting
Something better, yeah I’ve been down that line

Chorus
It's been 42 days still counting them
Since I had a drink and went home drunk
I've been sober, put down the bottle, said it was over then
It's been 42 days
42 days
It's been 42 days still counting them

Bridge
I wish I could go home
I'm scared i'll be left alone
To myself, with my thoughts, in my head
Screaming, and shouting, can't get out of bed

Chorus
It's been 42 days still counting them
Since I had a drink and went home drunk
I've been sober, put down the bottle, said it was over then
It's been 42 days
42 days
It's been 42 days still counting them

LOVED the chorus.  And I've been to enough AA meetings that I get it completely.  The second verse is soooooo powerful, I'd consider opening with it.  Just a suggestion.

For a song/reference point, I'd suggest listening to Kenny Chesney's "That's why I'm here."  It's beautiful and similar in tone to your lyric.  (I think it's Kenny Chesney, but it could be Tim McGraw)

Yep, it's Kenny Chesney :) One of my favorite songs and artists!

Cheers mate, I think you're right about the 2nd verse as a 1st instead. And 7 years after I have a whole new perspective on everything, so think i'll maybe try and rewrite the 1st verse into a more fitting 2nd verse instead :)

@hardtwistmusic Took the 2nd verse and moved as a 1st and wrote a new second, last night :) And I also changed the planned Key and chord-progression for it as well, to fit the song more. Will try and get it recorded during the weekend or just over :)
