Hello

John Pompeyjazz and I were talking one night about the fab 70s cartoon series Mr Benn...and we threw this together like two naughty schoolboys...

I knocked up a video for it too...

https://vimeo.com/353430373

It's based on the Mr Benn episode "The Zookeeper"

The lions were incessantly restless
The penguins had nothing to do
The bear filled with rage as he paced round his cage
And planned his escape from the zoo

When the keeper opened up they had their freedom
And headed into town
The fear spread all around the city
Panic as the sun went down

Oh – This is freedom
What will we do
Round up the humans
And lock them up in the zoo

An African parrot was chewing a carrot
Before he decided to speak
The hippopotamus had a bad chesty cough
That kept him in bed for a week

When the keeper opened up they had their freedom
And headed into town
The fear spread all around the city
Panic as the sun went down

Oh – This is freedom
What will we do
Round up the humans
And lock them up in the zoo

Oh – What else can we do ?
All the animals in the human zoo

Oh – This is freedom
What will we do
Round up the humans
And lock them up in the zoo

(c) Adamson / Bradley - 2019

It doesn't really need reviewing...we just hope it raises a smile  :)

Haha, love it to bits guys.  Excellent piece of chipper feel-good pop-punk.  I'm pretty sure I'll have that riff going round my bonce all day now.  Mr Benn... funnily enough I also wrote a song about him, imagining him in later life.  Must have been a big imprint on our childhoods.  I particularly like the way he walks.  Thanks for a big smile to start a Tuesday with.
It's all too beautiful.

Well lots to like here guys.
the lyrics put a smile on my face this morning
It may have well used chords and rhythms but you deliver with energy and style and its as catchy as hell.
It actually sounds like a lost hit that Gary Davies or Bruno Brookes would have played.
Well worth a listen
 :) :)

That started my day off with a big smile. Thanks so much! I need more of these. I admit to a bit of envy, though. I wish I had the opportunity to jam with some of you people.... <<sigh>> It's just as well, though, at least until I can get my fingers to hit the proper strings on the guitar consistently.  ::)

This is such fun.. Gotta love Mr Benn and his adventures :-) ! Catchy as hell too..  You two should have more whacky night-time conversations.. I just love that psychedelic synthy thing at 2.17 – fab! I predict this will not leave my head very easily!

Hi @pompeyjazz - super song, love it, for me it was a great slice of Housemartin - ish fun, so cool to hear your gravel voice over a Mr Benn theme,

No nits, prod super, everything fine by me behind that curtain...

I was also a big fan of Mr. Ben.
Lovely song boys. Sounding fresh n spontaneous.
Nice one.
It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.

I can promise you a future of slow decline.

A real nice-sounding guitar riff here boys...and that lead guitar is good and hooky. Chorus is very catchy too....yeah, I've forgotten about the Housemartins...we all loved that first one...got played to death on the pub jukebox. This has the same infectious quality and energy and it all sounds so very good too.
Fun and enjoyable romp...I even watched the video! Don't remember Mr Benn though....must be just that little bit older than you fellows!

He was a bit out there was Mr Benn. Respectable City worker with bowler hat et al spending all of his spare time dressing up and going on adventures. Fair play to the guy though as he always managed to sort out the problems of the world in his own calm unassuming way without decking anyone  ;D
