Hey Y'all

I recently stumbled upon a sonnet I wrote when I was a sophomore. It was for a project in English Class, and I wondered if it could be changed into a song. It's kinda been a rule that lyrics and poetry aren't the same things (Kinda true, but I beg to differ on the details), but I wanted to know if mixing the two could work. So I changed and added a few parts to the song. The structure's a bit less convenient to what I'm used to. Any suggestions and comments are definitely appreciated  :)

Verse:
From early on, I came to realize
that I don’t have a space where I fit in.
There’s no community to recognize
that I was born to live without a sin.

Inherently, I’m always just this strange;
with all the parts of my identity
being damaged by everyone. Derange
their minds - and you’ll be under scrutiny.

Hook 1
So this is my reality -
the prejudice and the wicked bigotry.
There’ll be a time when I don’t have to hide;
but until then, I’ll always be outside.

Verse:
The ominous uncertainties reside
in everyone. It’s just that I have more
dubiety in me. My life’s cockeyed,
but I’ll keep my positivity onshore.

Hook 2:
So this is what I’m fighting for -
to love the foreigner forevermore.
There’ll be a time when I don’t have to hide;
but until then, I’ll always be outside.
