This is about when my family used to go down to Poole to visit my mums brother and family in the mid 70s , they had a whirlpool at the bottom of their road you weren’t meant to go there /my cousin died aged 41 he was an alcoholic- he rang me several times asking about Buddhism and different religions and we talked about going to France to see the war graves ( my Dad was in the gliders on D/Day) but I was a bit worried because of his state of mind and we didn’t go not long after he was dead.
He was always so friendly so sociable , I remember going down there once for a break and getting drunk and throwing up on my aunties carpet and she was house proud and I was quite worried ,
At his funeral we found out from his first boss that he had to send him home at 16 because he was too drunk to work , I never knew any of this - my brother was the one always in trouble and they seemed a perfect family but it turns out he was nicking stuff from the family and then near the end of his life he was up on embezzlement but this doesn’t change anything just makes me very sad / I really Iiked him and here’s my tribute
I’d love someone to use the lyrics and do him justice

Blue lagoon

Blue lagoon , blue lagoon
reflecting the trees and the silvery moon
Why did you have to take him so soon ?

I used to lay on back looking up at the stars and the sky
I was eight years old and questioning why

Blue lagoon , blue lagoon
I couldn’t wait to go there , it had such an appeal
I have all these memories that I can still feel

cousin David isn’t with us anymore
He died just aged 41, I wish I could have done more

Blue lagoon , blue lagoon
reflecting the trees and the silvery moon
Why did you have to take him so soon?

looking up at the stars and questioning why ?
I still do it now and ask why he died
I remember him turning up at our door , dressed as a mod
it’s memories like this that make me argue with god

Blue lagoon , blue lagoon
reflecting the trees and the silvery moon
Why did you have to take him so soon?

free verse
Cousin Dave why did you have to die ?
why didn’t I listen when you silently cried ?
you were desperate searching for something more
then one day Auntie Sheila found you on the floor

Blue lagoon , blue lagoon
reflecting the trees and the silvery moon
Why did you have to take him so soon?

I don’t know want to be sad when I remember you
reflecting the trees and the silvery moon
Why did you have to take him so soon?

Nice one, I like the sentiment.

thoughts: I’d i’s drop cousin and just call him David

And just look at the tenses sometimes you’re switching beteen you and him, say in the last verse. You sounds more powerful imho.

    Hi.
This is clumsy in places, but i really can't knock it, knowing that it comes from real events and the heart. The blue Lagoon refrain throughout is what holds it together. Really good, but could have been great.
