Hi Folks,

A new song from me about how the world has gone mad. Brexit, Trump, Global Warming, Fake News etc makes me question everything around me and look at things differently. Any feedback welcome.

Thanks for listening

The waitress is watching me
From the corner of the diner
On the juke box the music shifts from major
To minor
And it occurs to me
Nothing in this world is how it seems

They say the rain falls just as heavy
On the righteous as the damned
There's too many people drowning
Walking through this land
It's clear to me
That nothing in this world
Is how it seems

There's blood on the poet's stage
The thief has paid the judges's wage
Fingers clenched in helpless rage
Just looking for the answer
Beauty is a gilded cage
Words pouring off a burning page
There's no time to re-arrange
No room for empty laughter

Your past is burning brighter
But your futures going dim
They told you it would end like this
You didn't listen to them
So you can see that
Nothing in this world
Is how it seems

We're all scratching in the dirt
For something shinier and newer
But time is no joker
And the days are growing fewer
Listen to me
Nothing in this world
Is how it seems

Really love these lyrics. The song doesn't disappoint. I love it. Your best, in my opinion, and you know I tell you what I really think. 😊 The mood you've created with the music is perfect for what you've written, and suits your voice.

Sometimes I watch from afar as a songwriter grows in stature and confidence, then magic happens.

This song is the product of a time served troubadour who is at last at peace with himself.

A mature song in every way and a delight for the ears.

You are blossoming Alan.  8)

Your production is always lovely. Lovely guitars and smooth vocal sound. This is confidently stripped back and like true folk the vocals and words take centre stage. But the strings and piano and percussion build at a perfect pace. This feels like perfect soft rock/folk to me.

By far the nicest melody here is the two words in the chorus. "For the answer/Empty laughter". Nice and unexpected and well sung.

Great stuff.

Delicious track Alan.  Everything about it really... the slide guitar, the measured build to it with the strings etc, and the tempered vocal delivery (you sound truly world weary, with little flickers of resigned anger in your voice too... perfect for the lyrics).  It's one of those tracks that just leaves you on the ropes, with its emotional punch.  And yeah I share your views on the current climate... I was in a blue funk about it all earlier while walking home, listening to Radio 4 news about incoming potential Prime Ministers... so your song was quite cathartic for me today.  Thank you.  Onwards & upwards.
It's all too beautiful.

Excellent, classy peice. I read the lyrics before listening and they really stand up alone as a peice of poetry - sublime!

The playing, singing and production are all top notch, really well done.
