Lyrics written by benjo

https://www.reverbnation.com/pat46/song/30780685-aprils-showers

the innocent eyes
owned by a child
the sweetest smile
but this world can be so vile

the hand of evil
comes baring down
pure innocence gone
so hard to be found

April showers
all the tears that fall
never forgotten
loved and missed by all

April showers
then the rainbow come
gods way of showing us
where his angels go

too young to understand
the rights and the wrongs
to busy playing giggling
and singing her songs

a shadow has cast
the sun has dimmed
dark grey sky
cold and frosty wind

sad sad feelings
always in our hearts
prayers for your safe return
into your mothers arms

April showers
all the tears that fall
never forgotten
loved and missed by all

April showers
then the rainbow come
gods way of showing us
where his angels go

if there's a better life
on the other side
I imagine you playing
on the swings and slides...

Pat,
Hope the Emerald Isle is doing you well.
Enjoying this tune. Your vocals have developed a mature depth about them :-)
Only thought would be around the production I think the guitar is too far back in the mix. Is it one take guitar and vocals? as I I can hear a 'bump' on the beat, I thought it was your vocals but think the mic may picking something on the guitar?
 :)

Emerald Isle and the English Rose Neil might be a lyric in there somewhere.

This is an old recording i did a few years back of Benjo wonderful but really sad lyric of the little girl April Jones, was uploading songs to a new reverbnation site the other night and i listen to this one and tbh i think its a few years since i listen to this song but his lyric says it all, really sad, thanks Neil

Deep lyrics and a sensitive delivery.

The up close and personal/raw track emphasises the desolation in the subject matter.

Very moving lyric and I quite like the way the recording focusing on the vocals and the words.

Musically would love to hear a little more contrast, because the chord stay the same pretty much and the vocal melody falls on the same beats, musically my ear switches off after a bit because I know what to expect.
Sometimes it is a good to mix it up musically (change the chords of the phrasing of the melody) to throw focus on a moment or a lyric.

Really good listen, thanks :-)

Classic singer songwriter stuff, reminded me of my own Leonard Cohen fixation of many years ago. I guess you have to be in the right place, right time to make your listening of this introspective and delicate stuff do the whole thing justice. The darkened bedroom of my youth is sadly missed!

You've produced it a bit on the quiet side, don't know if that was intentional. I had to turn it up, then the next song on your feed inevitably had to be turned down.

I enjoyed this though, a thoughtful and worthwhile interlude within my busy mad day today!
My latest novel: pls check it out!

‘Gavin & The Bodysnatchers’, a quirky comedy crime thriller. Easily found on Amazon.
