Hey all,

The man has been working me really hard this year, hardly had chance to do music. I did get chance to "finish" this one though, which has been slinking around by back catalogue for a year or more un-concluded.
Looks back to schools days, both in the lyrics and in the music, with tons of 80s touches in the production, all with slightly rose tinted specs.

Hope it makes you reminisce and perhaps stick on a John Hughes film or something.
Ghetto Blasters aloft now...

GLORY NIGHTS
(T J Boswell)

Those days
In summer my friend
Thought they’d never end
They were so much fun
So much fun

Those days
When cutting a class
To kick ball on the grass
Was a battle won
A battle won

But it’s ok
It’s alright, if our glory days are over
Here come our glory nights
Glory nights

Life is waiting for no one’s call
So take a moment before it all goes wild for one last dance
Place a crown on the king and queen
The world is yours when you're eighteen and in love

But it’s ok
It’s alright, if our glory days are over
Here come our glory nights
Glory nights

Kicking back is the perfect crime
Making love while you’re killing time
Till life begins at last
So make the most of the hell you raise
Don't you know they’re best days of your life?

Those days
In summer my friend
Thought they’d never end
When we were young
We were young

Those days
They said wouldn’t last
They went by so fast
And now they’re gone
Now they’re gone

But it’s ok
It’s alright, if our glory days are over
Here come our glory nights
Glory nights

Hi,
Indeed 80's drums and synths to the fore.
Then your blue eyed soul voice kicks in like a a great comfort blanket.
Like the lyrical concept and catchy chorus.

Q: Have you got anything left in the kitchen as you appear to have through everything into this, both structurally and arrangement wise. It must have been a whatever to mix it. I think I'm going to have to have another listen as I kept on getting diverted by the twists and turns.

Hi Tom, I caught this on Soundcloud about a week ago. You've captured that 80's sound so well. Your soul boy vocals are absolutely stunning and there are some clever clever BV's going on as well. As Neil says, there is so much going on here that you need to listen a few times to appreciate it all. This is a top class piece of work  :)

Excellent uplifting 80s period piece here.  Yes, it should certainly be the soundtrack of a film featuring people wearing stone-washed jeans and legwarmers... probably starring Kevin Bacon. I really like the way you've given it tonnes of dynamics... plenty of ups and downs but it all flows very smoothly.  The layered vocals work a treat too.  Love the line 'Make the most of the hell you raise' in particular too.  You're a talented dude to come up with something like this.
It's all too beautiful.

Whato writing this as I listen, LOVE the '80s vibe, captured that beautifully, superb work, I'm hearing arpegiatted Boss chorus gtrs.

This is really your best ever work, superb Vocal delivery, maybe a tad more echo on the LVox.

Maybe put the appregiatted Boss Chorus instead of the strings @3:17

Even sounds like a Steinberger bass gtr, very authentic man, great job.

has to be a SOTM contender.

Hi Tom,

Love this 80s style, definitely in a Kevin Bacon film, or a song in Fame.

Great lyrics and love how you've captured that 80s production techniques.

Good build up at the end, vocals sit well and excellent electric pianos too.

Clever and an enjoyable

This is an American 80s road song at it´s finest...when I read the lyrics before the music started I thought you were going all Bryan Adams on us. Excellent song, structure and arrangement all perfect and it´s a time machine to the 80s...a lot of us grew up there. Excellent vocals as always...very nice stuff indeed.

Hey Tom
Great to hear something new from you.
Yes as others have said there's 80's in this for sure (Billy Joel came to mind pretty quickly)
but I think it's got a modern feel too.
As usual, great vocals and I like how you make a simple chorus fit into a song with lots of interest points in the arrangement to satisfy those of us who like to swim in deeper waters  ;D

Nice work - forget about "the man" and keep 'em coming  :D

Thanks for the kind comments folks.

@Neil C @pompeyjazz it was a real complicated process throwing everything in over months and months. Was a devil to mix as you said 😈

@cowparsleyman thanks! In fact everything in there is straight out of logic, usual the guitar amps and effects and alchemy synths

@Paulski appreciate the comments. I didn’t think of the Billy Joel link but I can hear it now u say it.
Nice work - forget about "the man" and keep 'em coming  :D
I keep writing them but can’t seem to finish em’

Hey @tboswell .. there’s so much going on here - very impressive production and it oozes the 80s - instrumentation / production reminded me a little of ‘Sun always shines on tv’ .. very catchy chorus. Vocals are fab.. Very impressive indeed.. wow!

Sweet!!
It sticks after the first listening... no half first listening. Great to do the last chorus upbeat. Nice melodies and very fine arrangement :)

WOW! that was a fantastic trip into a somewhat modern 80's vibe ;D Beautifully executed in every way. And your vocals are to die for  :-*
There's so much going on in this track, but especially love the congas peeping in here and there :) Brilliant production and arrangement  :)

This is crazy...I've written two reviews from my android mobile for this great song and they've both disappeared after clicking "post"

Very strange.

Anyway...in summary...

This is excellent. You are a massive talent. I look back on the 80's (only when I have to) as being the worst time of my life but it comforts me to know that others were loving it.

I think you could win song of the month every month if it tickled your fancy...such is your talent.

I am about to press "post" for the third time...wish me luck...
