I have posted...not much for quite awhile. So here's something that started with a few lyrics I wrote more than three months ago and posted recently. It caught the eye of a couple other members, one (pompeyjazz) of which (or should that be "whom"?) has already churned out a catchy and completed song as a result. We're not asking for any specific feedback but are interested in what you think of it.

I Need Stuff

V1
Stuff, I need stuff; I gotta have stuff.
I never, ever, ever, ever, ever get enough.
Soon as you're born the race begins
And the one who dies with most stuff, they tend to win.
I get up I go to work; I get home and go to bed.
I get paid my wages, I keep my family clothed and fed.

V2
Stuff, I keep Stuff, I hoard it everywhere
Cupboards, wardrobes, cubby holes – There isn't space to spare
There will come a day, when I might just use it
A spare electric carving knife, would be so sad to lose it
Spending all my salary on Amazon or QVC
A simple click, it's on its way
From somewhere really far away

M8
I've got 5 different vacuum cleaners
And gunge to unblock my drain
This consumerist obsession
Is driving me insane

V3
Enough! I've had enough
No space to live and breathe, no chance to keep it clean
Why should I – Keep up with the Joneses?
With their collection of different garden hoses
Going to sell it all, grab that stuff beneath the bed
Post it on an auction site, so I can clear my head, oh yeah.

God that man works quickly. Lush blues-rock number to fab lyrics. "Fiiiiive" different vacuum cleaners - all the grit was in your voice rather than the hoover bag there John. I like it a lot - not much to say except very cool stuff indeed!

Very clever lyrics... clearing house at the moment and so it resonates too much! Some great lines in there....  my fave being "And the one who dies with most stuff, they tend to win..."

Can't believe how quickly @pompeyjazz turned this round - great sound as always, very catchy... FAB guitars...

This is a great, fun track.. Huge thumbs up from me!  Wonderful collab...

A lovely musical interpretation of how I often feel, Mrs CPM hates stuff, (don't go into the music room....plenty in there...Oooops)

Being honest, I think there is room for moving the LVox melody line about a bit.

Hope this helps

Rich

Hi Vicki,

Some clever lyrics here...great social commentary.

John has given it a cool interpretation, sung it really well and his guitars are crazy and really heavy.

Enjoyed this a lot....top tune

It’s great to hear your lyrics set to something really edgy Vicky.
Love the buzz-saw sliding guitars in this... the whole thing kicks botty.
Great production John. I’m surprised if you can still talk after the amount of grit in your voice on some recent tracks... you’re on rocktacular form.
The lyrics are very good too and something I’m sure most of can identify with.
It's all too beautiful.

Hi Vicki/John,

This is a great collab.
Great, energetic vocal - like Lennon when he was really going for it.

Rocks very well - "fizzes" along.

I'm another whose Missus hates - "my stuff."
Can't have enough books or music I reckon. Always on my case to sell some. I once relented, sold some vinyl - and regret it constantly.

I'm a tad overdue with thank yous....sorry, didn't mean to get into "bump" timing.

@MartynRich : He does, doesn't he? And prolific! I can't figure out how he gets anything else done. And, by the way, I'm waiting for your version....

And to everyone else... @MonnoDB @cowparsleyman @Movin Flavour @PaulyX @digger72 : Thanks for all the kind and complimentary remarks. It was really fun to see what John did with it. I wrote one verse and he turned out a masterpiece!

I thought I'd already commented on this track, but I guess I must have dreamt it  ::)
I love the lyrics Vicki :) I think we can all identify with the subject ::) I started a song about this a few years ago, but it never got finished ::)
Great job on the backing track and production John :o Love your grungy vocals 8)
First listen I thought it sounded a little on the slow side, but after 2nd listen, I got used to it :P
How did you get the track to look like that on SC? A perfect wave pattern :o :o

I just wanted to say that this way a huge load of fun to work on this track with Vicki - Vicki's lyrics sowed the seeds and I had something that I was already working on where the lyrics just dropped in - Prolific eh !! Mmm, don't know about that. I can assure you that I have lots of "other" stuff happening. I try and make sure that I do 1 hour of music every day if I can - Rarely more than that  :)

I certainly know what it is like to live amongst a bit too much stuff.
It owns you people, you don't own it!

Love the subject, nice vibe about the track and the active bass part is especially enjoyable.

My advice to you is to collect songs instead, they don't take up much space  :D
