Hey,

Thanks for all the feedback on 'Marching Band' - this one is very much it's sister-song (think I've mentioned before they always seem to come in twos)

There's no hook, or drums, just guitar and voc. This one was written very much therapeutically, during a difficult time - so while may be relatable on that level; certain things may be too specific.

That said I really enjoy the rhythm of this, and it's by far my best improv solo on the break - so hoping it can work as an enjoyable listen for others.

Guess the feedback I'm looking for is can I 'get away' with just ranting, rather than the full song structure. Does it still work on some levels - or something to keep for myself?

Something Beautiful

I need something beautiful I need beautify in my life
All I have is rough and mean and jaded by the light
I'm serrated by reality, my skin falls from the bone
My scenery is stale and I'm permanent alone

This is what makes me, the creature that I am
A quater century has passed and I no longer learn
I'm settled into habits, with ideals that are sham
Nothing's changing fast I'm out of corners to turn

If I ever feel better - I may give you a call
We can go for drinks and joke about it all
But my wounds dont seem to heal they just spread to the touch
And I'm to weak to reach afar and call out for a crutch

Can yay nay help? In this nay-say mind-set
Betrayed my own self after struggling to find it
Out of patience, but no-one minded,
Feel the same stressed out as when completely unwinded

As the margins narrow, the page grows thin
The letters are large and each word grim
Licked thumbs stay dry and the book don't turn
If I could only find a match I could leave it to burn

These words used to be therapy now they're forced in despertion
The reverse is true it's enemy but I'll continue chasin
It's too late for a re-write - this is my only vice,
Even if now I see right - I'll pretend to be unwise

Nothing to lose but the time invested
There's nothing there but I'm firmly nested
'Cos where'd I get if this is all I've been
With no knowledge gained or messages seen

'Cos my ears glued closed and my eyes nailed shut
And my mouth only open to make room for a foot
Sit down quite and stay out of the way
Repetition drills habit and I'm deadly afraid

Many Thanks,
Scott.

Scott, I love what you do lyrically and musically. This is real music from the heart and I love it big time. Its frantic, dramatic and fantastic. Real original music with feeling

Nice stuff Scotty. The line about the mouth only being open to make room for a foot is superb. I loved the whacko solo in the middle too. Like some of your other stuff, it’s really original tonally, I love that freshness man, you sound really uninhibited... there are shades of free jazz in what you do. Another lovely genre mash-up.
It's all too beautiful.

Hey Scotty I really liked this one - as the pomp says lots of frantic energy.
And that foot in mouth line at the end is stellar.
Would have liked to hear the full band kick in half way through though - just to make it build  ;D
creative and enjoyable!

Christ! These lyrics are intense.
You are a rough diamond. You remind me of my younger self.

If ever you're confronted by a wise man with a choice:

"lose the rough or surrender the diamond".

Punch him squarely in the face and depart at leisure.

Lovely voice as ever. This is for me is a poem set to music.
It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.

I can promise you a future of slow decline.

Don't eat the yellow snow

And there you have it.

"I'm serrated by reality" love that! And the book verse. Really repays a careful listen. The guitar tone is also very nice here, kind of bubbly and warm.

Lyrically this is SO strong. There are so many lines I could pick out it’s insane (l liked the foot line too but others much more so!) . You remind me a little of Dylan if only in the easy way you deliver such strong lyrics and they read with such strong rhythm before listening. Wow! Will be checking out more of your stuff!

Truly an original sound! Took me two listening (listenings? Not sure about the English there), one to get used to the sound and one to pay attention to the song. I like the wild sound and how the vocal rhythm glues the, understand me right, messy guitars together. Lyrics great and nice ending of the song. No need to add anything in my opinion.

When I listen to your stuff,I need to re-examine how I operate.

Your acerbic, biting lyrics are the core of the track. When it comes to the guitar solo part,I have difficulties, that's not how I would do things, but perhaps I'm not thinking in context and it's me who's wrong. Quite often I'm a man out of time/genre.

I love honesty and you have it Scott.

Great work, Scott! You're on fire here.

Lyric is visceral and I thought the rockabilly influence in the guitar part was interesting...not sure if it was intentional or a by-product of your sound and style.

Enjoyed it a lot, buddy :)

Hi Scott,

Some cutting lyrics that can't help but move.

Hard edge guitars

A good raw performance, an enjoyable listen.

Excuse my French but fuck me, Scott.

A friend recently said to me "you only have two lives, the second begins when you realise you only have one". Your lyrics brought this to mind. My favourite line was "Betrayed my own self after struggling to find it"...that one cuts deep. You vocal delivery is superb. The music is a frustration-fuelled genius of a mess. Perfectly suited to that anger you´re letting go. Keep strumming my friend.
