 Bonjour  ;D ;D

This is blatantly a political song.  So, sorry if it offends.  That is not our intention ;D ;D

I had an idea to write something in support of civil disobedience, and protest movements/alternative
cultures...that sort of thing.  Without which Democracy is doomed... ::) ::)

Anyway, I got the 'bare bones' of a song together, and sent it to PJ.  Who sent me back this (eventually ;D)

 https://soundcloud.com/binladeda/vive-les-gilets-jaunnes

Lyrics.....

Vive Les Gilets Jaunes

Ch
Hundreds and thousands, pouring from their homes
Marching into battle – Les gilets jaunes
Life in this century can leave you on your own
Liberte, egalite – Les gilets jaunes

V1
We bring hope  Where there's despair
Fight for our rights – Pomme de terre
Nous marchons dans la rue
Nous vous protegerons et vous

Ch
Hundreds and thousands, pouring from their homes
Marching into battle – Les gilets jaunes
Life in this century can leave you on your own
Liberte, egalite – Les gilets jaunes

V2
Vive Vive ! les gilets jaunes
Mes braves, mes amis, mon freres, mes soeurs
Vous Countinuez d'avancer
Tout le monde avec espoir

So there it is folks....a rousing call to arms ;D ;D .  I'm really pleased with the way this turned out.
I think PJ has captured that energy of freedom and passion, needed in a song like this.....will be interesting
to see if others agree ;D ;D

 Mange tout my friends  ;D

Nowt as queer as folk...........my gran

Performed passionately like it should be, quite an anarchic but satisfying wall of sound, interspersed with a bit of a quirky interlude there. Nice build there at the end too with the chanting and the dual vocal parts, before more quirky French parody. I liked this mix up of styles, you have a big sense of humour, reminds me a bit of Tenpole Tudor - remember them, ha?!

There's a serious message in there, but thankfully you delivered it with panache and without taking yourselves too seriously!  8)
My latest novel: pls check it out!

‘Gavin & The Bodysnatchers’, a quirky comedy crime thriller. Easily found on Amazon.

Hi Guys,

Loving this rocky side.
The interlude is zany - but works. The vocal/speech here is brill.
Dirty guitars and well chosen synth sounds combine well.

Defintely has a "French" vibe.
The outro made me think of "Allo Allo"

To carry on the Tenpole Tudor reference. Wunderbar!!

All the French was lost on me i'm afraid. Which is weird coz one of my favourite artists is French (Fugu... check them out).

The song was powerful though, i just wish i was clever enough to understand the message.
Remember.... it's just my opinion. It doesn't make me right. Although i probably am ;)

Hi Guys

Very clever song....

I love the French Lyrics, has hints of The Police Ghost in The Machine era.

Lots of angry energy in the vocals.

Love the fusion of all the different styles.... I really love the French Music

A great listen

Hey guys,

Aha this is fantastic! The last collab I heard between you two, Last Man Standing, lifted me up and dropped me into the middle of a festival, with the two of you rocking out on stage and John's impassioned shouting riling up the crowd.

This reminded me of that; because again this songs has transports me into the world you've created - what an engaging and exciting world that is.

Not sure am sold on the French, though maybe just 'cos it's harder for me to sing along, but some impressive pronunciation John! xD

That rhythmic chatter and synths at the break though... beautiful.

Keep up these collabs guys, and the more funky the better imo!

All the best,
Scott.

Loved the middle 8 and the outro in particular in this one. Other standouts were the wailing guitar noise that opens it and the multi-tracked vocals when you shout out the title line... a fist-pumper. Tres biens.
It's all too beautiful.

Musically, hard to beat, there's some real drive and passion here - great vocals too.
"Liberté, egalité, gilets jaunes" is a great line. "Et vous" is very clever too.

I'm not totally sure I like the idea of protests as a "battle", though I appreciate that you're getting into character and that is probably exactly how some perceive what's going on or what needs to go on in order to make changes. Ironically "En Marche!" is Macron's party so that's quite thought-provoking too, as it's not necessarily doing what it says on the tin...

Anyhow, sticking to the music, you two are working really well together, fantastic energy and perfect for the song concept.

Hey,

I love the spirit of the song !

I liked the voice very much with this little rock grit.
The  french pronunciation is quite clear and the English accent gives an exotic side.
I also like the ironic music of "Bal Musette" at the end.

It is a very successful piece, in France we have not yet done better on the theme!

Merci beaucoup tout le monde. I'm very interested in the comments by IS as I've never sung in French before. My French is schoolboy standard to say the least but I did live in Hyeres for a year in 1982 so maybe picked up a bit then. I would appreciate any grammatical corrections from you French speakers out there  :)

Merci beaucoup. I love this sound...the rhythm guitar is quite something and John, your French has certainly got better. What other words do you know?

The M8 is stunningly off the wall and then I love the french cafe sound at the end. Sounds almost peaceful and happy for a revolutionary song. Well done guys, another piece of art. Your collabs are getting better all the time.

@pompeyjazz :

Hi!

I relistened to the song, always good, good energy, frankly!

To answer you in detail about the pronunciation of French. I tell you again, we understand what you say even if you have an accent, sometimes more pronounced than other times. If it helps you to correct (but there are details) do not pronounce the "s" at the end of "jaunes".
Then in "d’avancer" it is not to say "de avancer" do not pronounce the "e" because it is "d’ " and not "de".
At the end of the song (it is not written) but I hear "on marche". Maybe the "n" is a can too accented as if there was an "e" at the end ("one") while it's "on" and not "one".
For the grammar in " Nous vous protègerons et vous  ", it may be missing an interrogation mark ("?") at the end, if I understand the meaning, otherwise I do not see what you mean (but it is probably poetry  ;))

Again, these are details and the song sounds and personally I like the English accent in French.

If you have other texts on which you want an opinion, either on the pronunciation, or on the written grammar, do not hesitate, I will gladly advise. You can even send this to MP if you want.

Well, I don’t know if I expressed well because my English is approximate, I hope.... and I hope it helps you.

@Inanité_sonore Thank you for your detailed analysis. I'm glad that you could understand it at least  ;D

I quite like the sound of sounding exotic so maybe I will stick with mon accent anglais  ;D

Your English is excellent BTW

Thanks once again  :)
