I made finalist last year and also 2016, it's a good vehicle to ascertain whether you are writing things that connect with your peers but little more than that really, you won't get anything out of it regarding promotion etc. (got 7 out of 10 through to semi finals this year too).

I've always been quite sceptical, and admittedly (too?) dismissive, of this gig in particular and of these kinda contests in general. I wonder how many (if any) of the winners actually go on to achieve commercial success within the Top 40 for example rather than the odd TV placement here or there (no mean feat in itself btw!).
