@PaulAds - Funny it's the other way around for me, it took me quite a while to get comfy using a pick. I also does depend on which bass you play, some are much easier to finger style than others, and slap come to think of it.

Great thread - lots of useful info!

I'm a bass player (mostly fingers, occasionally pick), but never been that happy with my home recorded sound, so these suggestions are very useful!

Pick or fingers depending on style. If I'm playing with a pick I tend to use a thin one. Oh yeah, I tried that trick with a duster to dampen the strings. Worked well on a Motown inspired track. Apparently it was used a lot on early Motown stuff.
