Midi controllers - Do you have them? Do you use them?

(1/1)

Martinswede:
Hi!

I just connected my Electric piano to the computer. I also have a Akai Mpk mini with 8 knobs that can be assigned in my daw. I assinged the knobs on the Akai and played with the piano. Great! But 8 knobs doesn't go a long way if you want to control a software synth.

I'm looking at the Novation Launch Control XL and if it works it just might be IT. The controller seems to be made to work as a mixer, so... Has anyone got one, or something similar? Have you used them assigned to synth plugins?

Cheers,
Martin

cowparsleyman:
@Martinswede - nope don’t use em, never been a problem for me, i have a few on my Korg Synth.

I use the knobs on the korg for recording automation for filters etc, and then edit the curves, maybe this is very inefficient, i heard @Boydie uses daw controller, maybe he has one

Boydie:
I use the FADER PORT 8 with STUDIO ONE and it is awesome

Not only do you have direct control of most functions and 8 motorised faders - there is also a "Magic" feature that lets you change any parameter/knob/slider by just hovering your mouse over a control and using a physical knob to change it

From memory @Martinswede you use Studio One so I would definitely recommend you check it out for the tight integration:

If you want to go up from here there is a 16 fader version:

If you want to take a step down there is a single fader version:

Martinswede:
Yes, I use Studio one. I checked out FADER PORT 8, but it seems to be more aimed at mixing. Using channel banks for tracks in the daw. A very sweet function, but I'll have to ask at the music store and see if they can be assigned in different plugins.

Thanks,

Martin
