Sound familiar?
Sounds like me.
At the moment, something I want to change.

As far as writing guitar goes 'I have riffs, basic riffs/riffs I like'... and not many, like 2 that I can think of right now that are my instrumentals and, like 3 that have both guitar and lyrics.



Writing Lyrics

• Sometimes they write themselves.
• No problems here, it's how I express myself - If I wasn't happy with my lyrics, I wouldn't try and make songs.


Writing for guitar

• I like the 'can write bass lines on my guitar' approach.
• I sometimes hear what 'should' go to a piece of music and work my way from there for some of my proudest stuff.
• I lack basic music theory, but I know where my notes are and chords and variants.
• I feel gifted but it's probably Dunning-Kruger.
• I'm a very emotional man, if you can count hurt, angry, jealous as emotions so I'd like to emote more, scream/yell, and transfer it onto guitar.


Singing

• It's not like I won't, I just 'am finding my voice, learning my songs/learning covers, seeing what covers work and what covers don't with my voice/accent.
• I want to scream/yell, not scream as in Screamo/Screaming Vocals, but I do want to project myself clearly and 'cooly'


Playing Guitar
• It's what I do.
• It helps me through songs.


I want to take what I've got, and learn about bridges, melodies, chord progressions, if this community's teaching.

This community is definitely teaching!!!

I would personally suggest tackling each area separately so that you can ask specific questions on a single area

To kick you off I would would suggest brushing up on some basic music theory and tackle chords and chord progressions first as these often provide the backbone and foundation to songs - and chord progressions are not subject to copyright so you can find one you like and then use different rhythms, melodies and lyrics over the top
