Hi,

Here is another one of my very early songs that I have re-recorded recently. I would be pleased to hear what you think.

All the best

M

I'm leaving here tomorrow I'm freeing you
Please don't try to follow I guess it's true
That being lost
Is worth the cost
Of the love that we knew
The love that we knew

This world is full of strangers I'm close to you
A sea of broken faces and a thought that flew
A thousand miles
Through endless aisles
Of colours flooding through
Colours flooding through

The fading light I don't want to fight lets hold it to the sun
Hold it to the sun
You're the only one
Your cotton dress one soft caress your eyes of ocean blue
Eyes of ocean blue
I still love you
I'm holding on
Still holding on

A voice inside is calling and I want something new
Don't be sad and crying this is long overdue
The empty days
Just tick away
Could you save me a few
Please save a few

I'm sitting in this cafe on a warm summer's day
Watching people talking but I've nothing to say
They cant't see
How it feels to be
Just drifting away

The fading light I don't want to fight lets hold it to the sun
Hold it to the sun
You're the only one
Your cotton dress one soft caress your eyes of ocean blue
Eyes of ocean blue
I still love you
I'm holding on
Still holding on

Lovely laid back vibe @montydog with some excellent instrumental touches and your voice really suits this song. Always interesting to re-record an older song. I'm sure you've learned such a lot since you first recorded it. Nice one

@montydog -Your best song/production I think. The music bathes us in a sea of beautiful melancholy. " cotton dress, one soft caress" - beautiful imagery! Lovely after a first listen.

 A very calming song.

Some excellent guitars and really love the background strings.

Great production. A good listen.

Beautiful Alan...

Crystal clear production and perfectly balanced instrumentation. I could listen to this without any vocal, happily.

The vocal however is the icing on the cake.

Great lyrics too.

For the sake of being productive I might take just a smudge more of the low end out of the vocal just so that it stays prominent when you drop down to the low notes. You've got a nice rich tenor with a lot of bass to you voice. Don't lose the character but maybe treat it like a bass instrument and clear out a fraction more of the 'mud'.

I can't fault anything else.

Agree 100% about rolling some of the bottom end from the vocals... Even though it's a hard decision to make... Your voice is so lovely and rounded... It often seems bonkers to eq any of it away....but I always have to do it to help the vocal sit in the mix...and my voice is nowhere near as rich as yours.

It's a lovely sounding thing with all your classy trademark touches. Obviously, I'm more drawn to the tragic and seedier side of life...but that's neither here nor there.

Were you the Milk Tray man in those adverts all those years ago?

I could just see you abseiling down a cliff face to drop a CD in through a bedroom window while some knockout bird in her nighty is brushing her hair with a smouldering look in her eye...and her husband is in the garage trying to fix the fan belt on her sporty little mercedes.

Very very nice song Montydog

For me the super smooth low end vocal and that steel guitar slide sounds amazing.

Disagree with losing the lows in your vocal, you have the vocal sitting nicely with the double bass and low end, gives a real intimate feel.

Thumbs up dude.

Class.

Hi Alan @montydog

I love this song, its well recorded and that velvetty voice sounds great, the mix is lovely and clear, and I agree that you should keep the low end on the vocal as it gives it a great tone.

Cheers, Mikey

Yo Alan.

You now sound comfortable in your own musical skin and this comes across to the listener. Nothing sounds as unconvincing as a singer who's unsure and lacking in confidence.

You sell the song because you believe and it makes us believers too. Lovely guitar passages add to the gloss.

Wow this is so beautiful. I'm happy to hear some different stuff from you and let me say this is super. I love it from 0.00 to 5.24.
Alan you should do this more often. Re record all your older songs.  ;)

Whato @montydog - just listening to it as I type (on iphone earbuds and laptop), sounds great, love how the different instruments arrive, especially the cellos and twangy gtr, really different.

There are quite a few picked and strummed acoustic gtrs  they sound great but the LVox sounds like it's fighting for focus for the main stage, maybe reduce the number of gtrs in the verses, you wouldn't dilute the song at all, it would also make the cello leap out a bit more, and make the song breathe a bit.

It sounds very compressed on the master buss, maybe it's SC doing that for you, I don't know.

Sounds like you puta lot of work for you in it.

Hope this helps Alan

Love the feel of this one Alan...definitely one of my favourites of yours for that reason. It has an irresistible groove for me....don't always find that with some of your other songs....for me of course! This has a kind of laid back mellow vibe....I can't really work out what it is that gives it that....this I like a lot. Analyse...analyse...could be that the vocal (the phrasing? placement of vocal melody??) has a very rhythmic quality....don't know.

Anyway I like it.
Take it easy.
